Michael Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Michael asks…

Is it normal to have blurry vision with contact lenses?

I just got contacts after wearing only glasses for years. I find that at times throughout the day, my vision gets blurry when I am wearing the contacts. It happens sometimes when I am looking at the computer screen and it also sometimes happens when I am exercising, or sometimes I feel like I am doing nothing to bring it on.

I called the optometrist and he said that it’s the nature of contact lenses that this happens. He said that the lens sometimes moves out of alignment in the eye and vision may blur somewhat until it moves back into alignment. Sounded logical. But, I prefer my glasses I told him because everything is always clear. He again reiterated that the glasses don’t have the same issue with coming out of alignment. The coverage they provide is whole, but the lens can shift somewhat. He also mentioned that dryness can cause it, but I sometimes get blurry vision in the morning when I just put them in and they are still moist.

Is this right? Do all contact lens wearers experience blurry vision sometimes? I have astigmatism if that matters.

Thanks

admin answers:

I wear air optix and they’re supposed to be the best contact lenses out there but even these lenses get blurry, when your staring @ the pc it dries them out and when you blink your eye closes over the dry contact and produces a smudge also like hitting a bug in your car then turning on the wipers, or it can be that your not cleaning both sides of your lenses long enough. Make sure your hands are clean and air dry them before cleaning

Robert Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Robert asks…

Could I have a tumor? What’s wrong with me? Please help.?

I am 13, I am of average weight, fairly slender. I exercise [my dad taught me how to exercise properly so, it's not that] I am tall too 5’10.
My vision is terrible 20/-4.75 [I think, it changes about every month or two; contact wearer]- no astigmatism

*Have experienced sensations where everything goes dark [eyes open and their don't seem to be any correlation with what I am doing/time of day/where I am, and these occurring]

*I tend to be a klutz, I have great balance and an avid martial artist, but for some reason I will trip or fall for no reason.

*I experience mild to severe pain in my joints, back, shoulders, neck, and pretty much everywhere. This pain is almost constant and the pain arises with no trauma occurring.

*I get headaches quite often and have extreme light sensitivity [even fluorescent light bulbs hurt my eyes, they begin to then water.]
Sun, computer/TV/cell phone screens also cause watering of my eyes [sometimes my nose too]

So,
*pain all over my body<primarily joints, neck, and back<Long, Long time.
*rapid vision change; not for the better about every month a new prescription is required<as long as I can recall
*being a klutz although I have a strong core<as long as I can recall
*blacking out for no apparent reason<as long as I can remember
*breathing normally then suddenly having extra air to exhale<fairly recent
*light sensitivity<This started within the past couple tears

I am under a lot of stress, primarily because of my parents fighting. When they fight I do feel weak in my knees and sometimes they collapse because of this.

I don't drink, or do drugs, and I eat healthy.

I ya'll have any ideas of what is going on, there are some other things, but these are the main problems. Any help is appreciated; Thank-you

[No, I can't just talk to my doctor, my parents won't listen and they think nothing is wrong]

I also have trouble getting my eyes to focus.

No, I am not sexually active [idk if that matters, but it might]
I don't go to school, well, I do, but it's a Charter School so I only go once a week. No school nurse. And I can't go to a dr because I'm 13 [parental consent and I can't drive]
My pupils are often larger than other people's, people often mention that they are abnormally large.

admin answers:

Just go see a MD for an exam. If you parents have their head in the sand, go tell the school nurse.

Laura Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Laura asks…

Recommended contact lens for extended wear?

wearing softlens toric66 but they cant last long, eyes get dry after max 12hrs.

would like to know any brands of contact lens (with Astigmatism) that enable me to wear for extended hours even throughout the nite…

heard that there are some extended wear contact lens for up to 6days or 30days…considering these, but i will also take them off when going to sleep, cos i only wan better breathable contact lens to last from morning till late nite after work, to go exercise or even midnite movies, clubbing etc.

COmfortable brands?

admin answers:

Soflens 66 lenses are cheap and will dry an give you short wear times.

You want a lens with silicone in, for example purevision toric or acuvue advance for astigmatism.

I would not recommend sleeping in contact lenses unless you really need to. The only people I would fit is soldiers or people who work in the emergency services and have to get up in the middle of the night. If you don’t need to sleep in them you are just being lazy. The risks are dramatically higher with extended wear (the risk of complications and serious infections).

You sound responsible. Wearing an extended wear lens as a daily lens is the healthiest option. They let a lot of oxygen through to your eyes and contain very little water so they tend not to dry much (if at all), so they’ll be comfortable. They cost more but they are the healthiest lenses you can buy.

Speak to your optician, they can advise you on the best lens for you because your prescription and eye shape will affect the lens options available to you.

Laura Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Laura asks…

What could be wrong if I have dizziness but no balance problems?

I have had this off and on for a couple years now. I have a dizziness/lightheadedness that totally stops my life. It gets worse when it gets dark. I have had a CAT scan of the head done and it came back fine. I almost feel as if I am going to pass out. Blood pressure is ok. Sugar is ok I think. Been to the Ear, Nose, and Throat doc and he seemed to think everything was ok. I have no balance problems, have never actually passed out. Have never fallen down either. I do have a slight astigmatism and was wondering if something is wrong with my eyes since I have no balance problems or maybe even sinuses or allergies. Can’t get to the doc till next month. I eat three meals a day like I am supposed to and get plenty of exercise at work. Am a little overweight. No fever. Anybody have any suggestions or does this puzzle everybody else too?

admin answers:

It sounds mostly like an eye problem. If your eyes aren’t focussing correctly it confuses your brain and makes you dizzy. There can also be something wrong with your visual cortex in your brain. CAT scans are not good at detecting small abnormalities. MRIs are much better for this. I would go have your eyes checked, first. If that doesnt solve the issue, go see a neurologist. Good luck!

Ruth Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Ruth asks…

Work with laptop + dry room = my eyesight is getting worse – help?

I’m a student and I spend a very big part of my day working (or browsing) with my laptop. Also, my room is very dry and very hot, not enough sleep – perfect conditions for the dry eye syndrome.

I am already using glasses, but mostly due to astigmatism (I was able to see 1.0 a 1 – 1.5 years ago with both eyes). Now my eyes are always tired and dry. And my vision is definitely a bit worse than before.

I need all the tips I can get on these subjects:

1) Increasing humidity in my room (college room, 1 heater (don’t use, room warm enough, 1 window)
2) Restoring eyesight without limiting laptop usage (exercises, break plans, diet and etc.)
3) Advice on limiting laptop usage (I try printing all my papers, so I could read them without using laptop, but doesn’t always work)

Artificial tears – not an option. Preservatives used in those make it worse in the long run. Also, I tried blinking more often, but I get tired quite quickly :/

admin answers:

How about getting a small humidifier and putting it beside u when ur working. U can also get visine apply before working and doubling it with humidifier.

Thomas Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Thomas asks…

Rosacea ruining all aspects of my life help please?

PLEASE READ ALL ! PLEASE READ ALL !

Hey about four months ago i noticed my face was red especially later within the day it never really bothered my until it became painful my face was constantly feeling hot. So i eventually went to the doctors twice with no luck what so ever they said it was an allergic reaction which i went the third time and was told it was Rosacea. I was then giving Metronizandale which sorted out the pain side of my condition but not colour wise i still have a red face which has destroyed my self esteem and confidence completelty i cant bare to look a Woman in the face. Im currently 16 years old and i used to be a very outgoing person who was very confident … not no more though.

About two months ago i decided i would take an overdose because i could’nt stop thinking about the condition and reading up about it which made me really really depressed i eventually ended up in hosbital and moved in with my dad away from my old life to try and sort myself out which i have improved alot but i still aint the same person. I am currently seeing a cyciatrist every week too keep a record of my Mental health due to my incident with the overdose.

Since my overdose i have seen four my doctors who didnt believe it was Rosacea they were’nt sure what it was so i have been eventually referred to a Dermatologist on the 22nd of this month which i can’t wait for the appointment to find out what is causing my problem. The reason i am so depressed is because it has changed my life so much i dont do exercise anymore i dont speak to girls no more and i dont go out with my friends anymore… before this i was out with my friends every night.

Im now at the stage where i can just about bare to go to college but my face is never ever off my mind no eggaderation and its made worse due to the face i have OCD. The reason i get so frustrated is because everything i used to enjoy i can’t do no more for example ive changed my life in so many ways i dont drink
: drink alchol
: exercise
: talk to girls
: socialise
: drink anything with caffiene.

I also have dry eye syndrome which i also hear is related to Rosacea which makes me worry about going blind! due to the fact every time i go to the opticians they say my astigmatism has changed and i barely passed the eye sight test for my bike liscense. I basically feel useless.

admin answers:

Doctors don’t know the exact cause of rosacea. Some doctors think rosacea happens when blood vessels expand too easily, causing flushing. People who blush a lot may be more likely to get rosacea. It is also thought that people inherit the likelihood of getting the disease. There is also some evidence that it may be caused by a skin infection called Demodex folliculorum and the immune reaction to it.

Treatment options such as oral antibiotics and topical creams are commonly prescribed to reduce inflammation and redness. Topical cortisone preparations for short-term use may also be prescribed as topical vitamin C therapy and cosmetic surgery.

Often the harsh chemicals and synthetic ingredients that are contained in today’s skincare products do more damage to your skin than you may realize. Herbal & homeopathic remedies, on the other hand have carefully selected natural ingredients to improve the appearance of the skin and prevent future break outs.

Some of such homeopathic ingredients include:

* Carbo vegetabilis (30C) is best for patients who are usually identified by the characteristic engorgement of capillary circulation. Their faces are often purplish.
* Calcium phosphoricum (D6) is a bio-chemic tissue salt which assists the body in creating new cells.
* Kali bromatum (30C) – It is also routinely used to help address skin conditions that cause redness, particularly on the face.
* Violae tricoloris (6C) is a remedy formulated from the Pansy and is used mainly as a remedy for facial skin disruptions and redness to the forehead and scalp

These homeopathic remedies when used together can:

– Reduce facial redness and flushing
– Improve facial blood vessel health
– Increase skin smoothness
– Reduce the appearance of tiny red bumps on the face and nose
– Improve skin health from the inside out

Robert Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Robert asks…

Is this really astigmatism? Is there any way to permanently correct it?

I have had perfect vision, my whole life. (except for severe photophobia)
Now at age 26, they tell me I have astigmatism. Is it really possible for the shape of my inner eye to suddenly change shape? Is there any permanent thing I can do to correct my vision without a prescription? (Surgery, exercises, etc.)

Before I hear anything about taking surgery over glasses, I’ll tell you that my photophobia requires me to wear sunglasses, constantly. They get scratched up, and have to be replaced frequently. As this is a pre existing condition, I would be forced to pay for prescription sunglasses upwards of five times per year, at 1-2 hundred US dollars each pair. Clearly that would be unacceptable. (I currently buy cheap- but attractive non prescription glasses, regularly because my work and family cause them to scratch and or break, often.)
Contacts are also out of the question (they make my eyes even more sensitive to the light.)

Would really appreciate your advice.
Footprint,
Yes things are getting blurry. I think it’s a minor prescription, not a major one, and no, it is not a matter of being careful with the lenses. The frames break and the lenses get cracked or scratched. It’s not really avoidable. If it were, I’d avoid them. The glasses wouldn’t bother me otherwise. (hazards from work)… (and toddlers at home). Thanks anyway.
Everyone tells me they are hard to break/crack. They aren’t.

admin answers:

I hear that lasik eye surgery can fully correct astigmatism, I have an astigmatism also and my eye doctor said I could get lasik,

I also have photophobia too! I also have to wear sunglasses a lot.

But as far as I’ve searched around, only lasik seems like a perfect fit.

The surgery will correct the astigmatism but not sure about the photophobia.

vertigo, blindness in both eyes?

end of nov 2010 i went blind out of nowhere for 15 minutes. i woke up at first and saw fine, but after walking for a min i slowly but rapidly lost my vision.. as it were “disintegrating” away into black. i doubt you went blind like i did, but this is how i felt: i had vertigo. my body went numb. i feel a little nauseous, i couldnt walk right or couldnt hold my head up without it feeling heavy. the whole room was spinning. i started to sweat and i think my heart beat got faster but after 15 minutes, i slowly got it back “disintegrating” again

i got mri’s and cat scans and apparently everything came back normal. i have white spots on my brain but apparently “theyre just spots of liquid” which i think is bs. they think i just have migraines so im on painkillers when needed. but yesterday at 2:40 i woke up to blow my nose, and i went blind again. i was trying to get back to my bed before i went completely blind. i knocked things over trying to get there. but after 4 mins it came back

I think the neurologists diagnosis is complete BS.so im going to another doctor to get a second opinion. do you guys have any ideas what it could be? and when i lose my vision.. its completely gone. not partially.

OH! i also have 3 kinds of lyme disease. they were all treated. i have exercise induced asthma, and acid reflux. i wear contacts. i have 2 different prescriptions cuz my left eye as astigmatism. (-1.50, -1:00)

i know. im a mess lol icon sad Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Nancy Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Nancy asks…

Left eye got irritated and cloudy after putting a contact in after 3 days of being in solution, why?

I have astigmatism and wear 30 day contacts, which I take out for cleaning about every 2 weeks. I put them in solution on Sunday and have been wearing my glasses. Before I was going to work out tonight I put them back in and my left eye had a bad reaction that was of a stinging pain and got really irritated. I figured this was probably just from the solution and kept the contact in until the pain went away, and it did. Then as I was starting to look around I noticed that my vision in the left eye was kinda cloudy. So I took the contact out and cleaned it again, but the cloudiness didn’t disappear. When I came home after exercising I took them out again and put my glasses on and the cloudiness has reduced significantly. Whaaaat is going on?!
@Jared – I put them in a new a case following the same logic, we shall see
@the mom- I use Renu solution

admin answers:

There are a couple possibilities. Anytime you wear contacts for an extended period of time, they become coated with proteins from the tears of your eye. Over days, that coating thickens- which is why you need to remove them and get them into the enzyme solution. Sometime, you just have one that gets coated a little thicker for some reason and the solution may not be able to get it all off. But it is able to loosen it. Putting it in your eye may have just mechanically removed enough of it to bug you. The stinging could also mean your solution is not as well buffered pH-wise, and the difference caused it to sting. As it got diluted in the tears, the stinging went away. Not knowing exactly what type of lenses you wear, or your solution, it’s hard to give you a better answer. However, anytime a contact causes a problem, the best thing to do is dispose of it and start with a fresh lens. I know, the expense can be an objection- but your eye and vision are worth it. You might also want to change out solution, and check the expiration date of the bottle you used. It’s not a good idea to have a bottle of solution open for months either, so if you bought the giant size and only use it once a month- it may be time to replace it. Also, the case itself needs disinfecting and drying as well. When you remove contacts and put them in your eyes, you should dump out the old solution, wash and airdry the case. Each time you put contacts in a case, it should go into a previously dry case, with new solution. You also need to use the solution your doctor recommends, and not change it without speaking to him/her first. Best way for now is to discard those contacts, clean the case, and replace the solution. If the vision cloudiness persists, see the doctor.

Natural Treatment for Improving Eye sight?

Hi guyz,
Just wanna know about the Natural treatments available for Correcting or Improving vision.I have a slight Astigmatism of less than 1 in both eyes. I am planning to have a career in Armed forces(may be flying). So i want to know about any Natural or Alternative treatment available for Rectifying this condition. I dont want to go for Surgical procedure like LASIK or PRK.Lasik and PRK are not a strict taboo in forces and they can be easiy detectable thru a test. I have heard about Bates method and Exercises, but dont know how much effective they are in correcting Astigmatism. Please advice.
Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

ACCORDING TO THE SECOND SITE LISTED BELOW THESE EXERCISES DO IMPROVE EYESIGHT IN THOSE WITH ASTIGMATISMS………

Exercises for a Better Vision – Palming
Palming

“Palming” was originally a yoga technique. After Bates noticed its beneficial effects on the visual system, he “borrowed” it and incorporated into his system of vision improvement.

Palming works by calming the visual system. Our eyes see by receiving light signals. If there were no light entering the eyes, one should expect to see nothing. Instead, in eyes with defective eyesight, there appears swirling patches of colours, creating pictures where there should be none. This is a symptom of the eyestrain causing defective vision.

The act of palming makes people aware of the strain. The warmth from the hands helps relaxes the tense eyeballs. Some people claim to be able to the “inner energy” or “chi” emanating from the palms. I think we can safely dismiss those claims.

How to do
Place your palms over your closed eyes, letting the fingers cross over at the forehead. Slightly cup your palms such that you are not pressingon the eyeballs. Feel the warmth of the hands radiate and diffuse gently into your eyeballs. Think of the most peaceful scene that you can imagine. Relax…

A few things to note

Do not press against the eyeballs with your palms. This will put pressure on the blood vessels in the eyeballs and reduce circulation of blood and nutrients. Make sure that as much light as possible is blocked out by the palms. The exact position of the palms is up to the individual. Crossing the fingers at the forehead usually helps.

Put yourself in a comfortable and proper posture e.g. Don’t slouch
Remember to keep your eyes closed, behind the palms.
And keep your hands clean, otherwise there will be the attack of the pimples!
The most important thing is to relax. Of course, one can’t try to relax. The harder you try, the more tense you become. The trick is to imagine pleasant scenery such as floating clouds in a blue sky, a peaceful sunrise at the top of the mountains.

Unbalance eyesight~! help~!?

My old specs was sph: right -5.50 and left -5.25, worn for 8 years. I always sit in front of the class and didn’t really notice the changes in the power until this beginning of the year. Just recently I got myself a new pair of spectacles with:

Sph: Right -7.00, Left -6.00
Cly: Right and left 0.00
axis: Right and left 0.00

This year i will be turning 21 and I am really afraid of my eyesight deteriorating as i age. My friends told me that I am lucky that I do not have astigmatism which will cause blindness (as they say). However the right eye and left eye have a very large difference which worries me. My optometrist told me not to worry and eat more veggie, and exercise my eyes more by looking at greenery and trees. But still it is very unsettling, what do I do? It seems that i depend on my right eye more than my left~!
thank you for all answers~! ^^

LOL, astigmatism will not cause blindness. Anyway, eyesight naturally deteriorates with age anyway. It might happen more rapidly with bad eyesight, but it WILL slow down and eventually stop until you’re quite old. icon razz Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism And yes, you are lucky to not have astigmatism, it’s rather bothersome.

Laura Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Astigmatism

Laura asks…

Getting rid of glasses?!?

How can I get rid of glasses? I’m long sighted so I have been told it is impossible for me to get any kind of eye surgery. I wear +6 glasses and I hate it! I’m too young for contact lenses and even if I was older the eye shop says they would be super hard to make for me because I also have astigmatism, (Ithink that’s how it’s spelt). I can see and even read perfectly well without my glasses but one eye (I can change which on does) turns in really badly. I actually read online that you can get rid of your glasses using special eye exercises but they involve not wearing your glasses. My mum freaks out anytime I’m not wearing my glasses because she thinks my eyesight will get worse than what it already is! Sorry for this being so long but any ideas?

admin answers:

I do have contacts for astigmatism but I’m more around -6 not +6. I’d ask around more about this. However hard contacts are not unusable if its your only option. When I first had contacts they were the only ones available and I thought they were wonderful. However they take time to get used to and are painful initially. Some people did give up on trying to wear lenses for this reason.

Not wearing your glasses does not make your eyes worse there is no evidence for this, so you need to sit your Mum down and explain to her that this is the case. Ask her to speak to the optician if she doesnt’ believe you or ask why she thinks this. If your optician thinks that your eyesight would worsen without then he/she needs to explain this to you and say why. The situation may be different becaue of your eye turn, but you are obviously able to understand your own problems and have the right to have them explained properly to you.

There is no evidence that eye exercises improve eyesight. No neutral scientific studies have verified any claims and those saying they do improve eyesight are mainly looking for you to make soem form of payment. If you think about it , if eyesight was improved by execises would anyone wear glasses/contacts? There is no way teh information could be hidden these days.

Even if there is nothing currently which can help you to manage withotu glasses there may be something in the future. When I was in school contacts had only just come out and lazer surgery was unheard of. Advances are being made all the time and you need to keep an eye on the situation.

astigmatism? i had a friend who had astigmatism, never went for a opt, stopped wearing glasses and all he did was “an eye exercise” …..focusing on an object for quite some time from a distance….does it really show results?

admin answers:

There are eye exercises than can reduce astigmatism and other refractive disorders. The exact mechanism of how they work is uncertain, but they do work. It seems that through exercising extraocular muscles eye and cornea somehow change into normal shape. To what extent they can reduce astigmatism I cannot say, but you will notice improvement very quickly.

admin answers:

Working on computers will not cause myopia and/or astigmatism. These are determined by the shape of your eyeball (and the shape of your eye sockets) and the contour of your cornea, and both are determined by your genes, your inheritance. Lasik eye surgery can correct both conditions, so consider it when you are old enough and your skull has finished growing.
