Your Questions About Eye Exercises To Improve Vision

March 11, 2012

Sandra asks…

Exercises or foods to improve vision?

Ive been wearing some glasses for some time now and the doctor said its because of my eye shape, but is there any tips or advice besides contacts or laser eye to help cure my vision problems?

admin answers:

Like footprint said, don’t waste your time. I have wasted enough time trying the same thing. I have tried and researched a lot of methods and found them to be based on pseudo science and exaggerated testimonials. I have tried stuff for several years and have only gotten worse vision. Natural vision teachers make it sound like if you don’t improve vision it is your fault. This is the self-blame game that always works if you believe them.

Contrary to natural vision improvement teachers, the eye care industry is under no conspiracy. They understand that sometimes vision does improve but that is in rare cases usually with people who do nothing but wear their correction. I have actually talked to one person that had this happen. Also some smaller vision improvements can sometimes occur with no change of the distance of the eyeball. Of course you can never make up for a refraction error.

Email me if you have any other questions. Because I stubbornly refused to listen to others, I went through a lot of heartache and self blame. I don’t want anybody to go through the same disappointment I went through.

Ken asks…

How can I improve my vision?

I really want to improve my vision, and my family can’t afford surgery (I’m 15). I wouldn’t mind getting it, but it just can’t happen now. I’ve read that if I stop wearing my glasses, take bilberry extract, and do eye exercises, my vision will improve. Is that true? And how long will it take before I notice improvement, or don’t even need my glasses anymore? Also, where can I find bilberry extract?
Well, that sucks. Then if I can’t improve my vision on my own, how old do I have to be to get corrective surgery?

admin answers:

I disagree with Eyegirl. Bilberry may be useless, I don’t know for sure but I wouldn’t waste time trying it. But eye-exercises DO work, believe me. I had a significant level of nearsightedness and so far I’ve reduced it by a half and I’m still improving albeit slowly. The real problem is to find the right exercises and unfortunately the web is so full of methods which cost a lot and do nothing. You can easily recognize them by the fact that they promise miracles . Miracles do not exist. You have to work hard for a long time, there’s no alternative.
I found a book that promised just that, hard work. I studied it (not easy , I have to say) and started practicing the exercises in addition to the correct use of glasses (undercorrections are as important as the exercises).
If you have the patience to do all the necessary things for a long time, you could try it. Otherwise if you prefer easy and quick solutions, there’s only glasses/contacts and surgery.

This is the book I’m using:

Susan asks…

Are there any exercises to improve the vision that work, or should I just go get glasses?

Lasik surgery, that scares the heck out of me, having someone with a knife cutting my eye. So I have to say no to that.
Thank you CJ, you always make me smile, and I need that! Thanks

admin answers:

Just get glasses they are like an accessory now they could look HOT! HOT! HOT!

William asks…

How can I improve my eysight without using glasses?

I had very good eyesight but now I am 13 and my eyesight is at 20/100. I want to know how I can improve my eyesight naturally without getting glasses? I really hate not being able to see things from far away.

admin answers:

You are near sited and that has to do with the shape of your eyeball.
Last I heard, there is nothing short of surgery or glasses to improve that. Nothing you can eat or exercise will have an effect on the shape of your eyeball.

Your Questions About Ways To Naturally Improve Eyesight

Lizzie asks…

What can i do to improve my eyesight in the quickest way?

i just went to get a eye check and my doc told me i had nearsightedness of 275 on both eyes. i dun wanna wear glasses, what can i do to get better eyesight in the quickest way other than surgery. i wanna do it naturally. currently, im doing a lot of eye exercises and not wearing my prescribed glasses cause i think that will just make my eyes worse. is it because i use the computer too long. i don’t want contacts either. if you guys have any personal experience with this stuff please tell me! thx in advance to those who wanna answer
i no there are a lot of scam out there claiming they work. im using bates eye exercising methods i just absolutely hate glasses and contacts

admin answers:

Yeah – well you and about 50% of the population don’t want to wear glasses and want an easy fix. That’s why there are lots of scams out there.

Be very skeptical of any claims that eyesight can be improved naturally or by special exercises.

“…no type of eye exercise can improve a refractive error or cure any ailment within the eyeball or in any remote part of the body. If you are considering a vision training program, request a written report detailing the problem, the proposed treatment plan, an estimate of the time and costs involved, and the prognosis. If the plan is not targeted toward a specific visual problem (such as amblyopia), or if it includes a broad promise such as improving I.Q., forget about it.”

Spectacles or contacts are ok – they are based on 100% natural ingredients! You’ll get used to them.

James asks…

i cant get new glasses right now or go to the eye Doctor because i cant afford it….

so is here any way that i can improve my eye sight naturally?
i get the biggest headache ever after that class !!

admin answers:

Jay, I am truly sorry to hear that your teacher would not accommodate you by moving you closer to the front. That is quite mean of her.

About improving your vision, I’m afraid there is really no proven way to accomplish this. I would however, suggest that one of your parents write the school a note explaining your situation and hopefully, the teacher will move you.

I’m really sorry I couldn’t be of any help.

Robert asks…

Can you improve your vision naturally?

In my experience, my eyesight used to be sort of bad, there were certain things I couldn’t see from a distance. I decided to eat even more healthy and do eye exercises. In about lets say a couple of months my eyes got slightly better. Things got a bit clearer, I started to see some differences.

I heard a person once had bad eyesight and went to 20 20. And I heard another one went in a range from -3.75 to -1.25 over doing some eye exercises.

A lot of opticians say once you get them bad, you can’t get them back. But a lot of people have improved theirs. So is there a possible way you can get it back to 20 20 or close? Naturally?

admin answers:

It may be possible to get 20/20. But it does require a few little things to be right. There are bad vision habits to get rid off. (staring being the major one). Relaxing in the head and not allowing bad attitudes to take over are other areas to consider. I find looking down on other people to make sense of a situation makes eyesight worse. It’s also a bad idea going around with an arrogant attitude that you know the right way to do things and your approach is always perfect. That’s a sign of a person unable to look at his own errors/mistakes and is generally being ignorant.

The other issue is how bad is your prescription. You might be dealing with having an eyeball that has elongated which means there’s nothing you can do to get closer to 20/20. I tried myself to use reading glasses to help encourage the eyeball to regain a sphere shape. I haven’t been able to check what shape my eyeball is now but it definitely makes a noticeable difference to the vision after wearing the glasses for a few hours.

I’m.willing to accept that some people did officially manage to reach 20/20. (like the author of ‘secret of perfect vision’) but it seems a period of 10 years would be a more realistic length of time for the eyeball adjustment to be finalized. I find it easy to wear plus power contact lenses everyday but I do feel while wearing them that i become very withdrawn with occasional oddness in my behaviour. I definitely would say I act like a completely different person with the lenses. This is probably very confusing for friends and family.

Regarding your question about opticians saying eyesight never gets better. They would be lying if they suggest EVERY person that undertakes an eyetest with them ALWAYS get a result of worse vision. If there is an explanation why this fact should be ignored then let them explain why.
People online in this site have said it happened to them. You may know friends or family who had this experience or most crucially you yourself have your own evidence in the form of your prescription.

So this stand off between two sides must indicate someone is being ignorant of the truth.

In my opinion if someone is talking about a subject and can be completely independent in their opinion then their answer is more likely to be a genuine one. If someone relies on money coming into their bank account from the sale of a product/service then that persons opinion is likely to have been compromised.

I would also like to say that it makes it harder to quit a habit when living with someone who continues with it at the same time. It applies to many things such as smoking, alcohol etc. While at first it may seem easiest for the person quitting because they face the rewards of their hard work. If the other person chooses to look down on you for your decisions it can change to a situation where they are making life harder for you. Also they might choose to make you feel like an idiot for what you’re doing (if they don’t agree with it) And in a way (in the example.of wearing glasses) they know there is no doubt about them ever having to struggle. Wearing glasses can appear a very easy option (because for them having bad eyesight comes easily.)

admin answers:

Unfortunately, no. The reason that your eyesight is the way it is is because of the shape of your cornea. The way your cornea focuses light, it focuses the light in front of your retina. This causes nearsightedness. It’s easily correctable with glasses or contact lenses. You could get Lasik surgery, which is a very safe, common procedure that uses lasers to change the shape of your cornea. However, if it is not covered by your eye care insurance, it could be expensive.

Just be glad you have eyesight… I went blind in one of my eyes last year, and my eyesight will not get better, and it’s not even correctable withglasses.

Laura asks…

What are some natural exercises/remedies I can do or take to improve my eyesight without medical treatment?

I’ve heard there are things that can be done to sharpen vision, our vision is naturally weakened by watching television and the computer screen, perfect vision before the technology age was about 20-15. Does anyone know any sites that can provide exercises that can provide real results to eyesight?

admin answers:

I have been using the Rebuild Your Vision Program ( for some time now… I did see some improvement. However, I haven’t been doing the exercises on a regular basis, so I have probably negated any improvement.

You can read about my progress on my blog –

This is also another popular eye exercise program –

Proper nutrition is also important… You can read about that in this article –

Hope this helps….

Nancy asks…

Do eye exercises work to improve vision?

Are there any out there that can naturally improve you’r eyesight? No carrots.
Footprintz: Have you preformed any tests, studies, experiments that otherwise prove that there aren’t any real exercises or are you speaking from past knowledge?

admin answers:

The problem is that we live in a bad, bad world and there are many bad people who will try to rip you off by selling you uneffective methods. But exercises do work, just not all of them. It’s hard to tell which one really works unless,of course, you try them , but it would quite time consuming and expensive. A few tips: don’t even consider methods that promise wonders, they are a scam. Do not trust methods that guarantee fast results, it’s not possible. Whenever something appears quick and easy, it doesn’t work. Avoid expensive methods, there’s no reason to be expensive.

If you’re looking for something that has been scientifically proven, you won’t find anything, because these things are simply ignored by science, therefore no experiments are conducted. I’ve heard of just one experiment made 65 years ago, the “Baltimore project” of 1944-45 and results were not good. In my opinion just one experiment made 65 years ago doesn’t prove that no exercise will ever be effective. It simply proves that what they did back then was not effective, that’s all. For thousand of years men couldn’t fly and it was considered impossible (and innatural, too). If they hadn’t tried and tried we would still consider it impossible. The same applies here. You can’t say eye exercises don’t work just because some kind of exercise didn’t work 65 years ago.

My personal experience is that it’s possible to improve nearsightedness but it takes time and patience. I found a book that promised nothing but hard work and explained a lot of important things besides the exercises. I liked that and decided to give it a try. So far I’ve reduced my nearsightedness from -3.75 to -1.00, and I’ll continue until my eyesight is perfectly normal. It’s not difficult, but you have to re-learn how to use your eyes and your glasses, otherwise the exercises alone won’t be enough.
Since many people want to see perfectly clear at once and without any effort, it’s obvious that eye exercises, even the most effective ones, are worthless to such people and they’ll always prefer glasses, contacts or surgery.

Donald asks…

How can I naturally improve my eyesight?

I got my eyes checked at the nurses office at school and she said I have 60/60 vision. I already knew it was really bad though. I can hardly see 5 feet in front of me. 3-4 feet is most comfortable for me. 2 feet or closer is best. Plus even reading a book or close up feels kind of strained…well it constantly feels a little strained when I’m looking at anything no matter how close or how far. I don’t have glasses or contacts and don’t want them. They make your eyesight worse and I can’t afford that. I know it’s not genetics. My grandma and Grandpa on both sides still have good vision and don’t need any glasses, my mom can see WAY far away. It’s like hawk vision. My dad has 20/20 and so do almost all my aunts, uncles and cousins. I am on the computer a lot, play video games a lot and drink 6-8 cans of soda a day + no water except for maybe 1 glass every 6 months when I feel like I’m going to die without it. Because I hate water. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it… Oh, I also pretty much only eat microwave and instant stuff since my mom can’t cook because of health conditions and every time I attempt it I burn myself, burn the food or catch something on fire. (I’m serious T_T.) I also don’t exercise much. Okay, none at all. I have no idea if exercise or nutrition can effect your eyesight, but some people say it can…

Any thing that could help? >_<

admin answers:

First of all, knock out the junk food. If your body is not getting proper nutrition, you will not be healthy. You are what you eat! Knock out the soda, microwave meals, anything made with white sugar or white flour! Eat lots of veggies (especially carrots) and fruits, whole grains. You will be able to improve your eyesight some just through diet. See your eye doctor though for a thorough exam.

do you know any natural method that could help?
ive heard something about bates method.
does bates method help me see good again?or is there any other method that can help?

admin answers:

Most people do not feel comfortable wearing glasses. It isn’t natural. It would be like holding a magnifying glass up in front of your face while walking around all day and staring through it at everyone.
Its fundamentally antisocial, As i said youd be staring at people and this wont be appreciated. In the longterm it causes many dysfunctions in the functioning of the eye and the rest of the body..
Yes It is possible to improve your eyesight and there are many people who did.

I put some links below that you can read freely: (Eye Relaxation Techniques) (Eye Exercises) (Pinhole Theory) (Clinic using Pinhole Glasses)

Thats a wide range featuring relaxation, eye exercise, pinhole glasses and more.

Popular books on natural vision improvement are:
“Relearning to See” by Tom Quackenbush
“The Bates Method for Better Eyesight Without Glasses” by William H Bates
“The Secret of Perfect Vision” by David de Angelis
“Natural Vision Improvement” by Janet Goodrich

The bates method will only help if you have regular trouble with moving your eyes around. The eyeballs should be able to look in all directions easily, with no struggle. Doing a circle with your eyes should come out nice and smooth with a steady pace. If that isnt the case for you it might be worth your time investigating that.

Myopia is not caused by a flaw in the front of the eye, the internal lens or the ciliary muscle.
Its caused by the eyeball as a whole elongating and changing shape. The eyeball CAN change shape. A sphere shape is the optimum shape for good vision. Increasing the distance front to back of the eyeball just messes up the focusing distance of the eye. Its like if you shine a torch at walls further and further away the beam of light spreads out more and is less focused.
The book “Secret of Perfect Vision” has lots of research on this topic. The author has been certified as having perfect vision by an independent optometrist.

Sorry this person called pennybar puts alot of stuff in this site and her motives are not helping anyone. Its becoming clear its a promotion for an alternative treatment called ortho-k.

“Your vision may get worse until you reach your early to mid-twenties, at which time it should stabilize.”

The average person’s vision never stabilizes during their whole life time. From the age of 20 onwards the amplitude of accommodation of someones eyesight descreases by 2 diopters every 5 years. Near vision will also consistantly worsen (due to inflexability of the crystalline lens)

“Maintaining contact lenses is not really difficult if you are mature and responsible enough to follow instructions. They must cleaned daily and soaked overnight using the recommended solutions and only worn for the length of time directed by your eye doctor.”

Again the focus of her answer is related to the promotion of her product “ortho-k”.
Yes maintaining contact lenses is kinda simple. But natural vision is 100% simple

“Having to wear eye glasses is much better than being blind, so get used to the glasses.”

Well is she suggesting any avoidance of glasses would result in her poking you in the eye? To ensure youwill never be able to see again? Well lets thank god none of us know this person or have to go anywhere near her.

“I’ve been wearing them since I was 7, my three nephews 7, 10 and 35 have worn glasses since they were 2 years old and don’t seem to have your problem with wearing them.”

They live in their own world. Screwed up as each other

“There is no scientific proof that eye exercises (like the bates method), eye vitamins or eating foods high in beta-carotene (carrots) or lutein will improve visual acuity.”

Yes there is no scientific proof that eye exercises help someone with normal eyesight. Thats because they already have eyes that function normally and any”exercising” happens naturally. We know there are muscles in and around our eye. If they were not to function then the results would be as follows. You wouldn’t be able to close your eye correctly. Tears would not be allowed to flow into the eyes. And there would be an inablity to move/turn your eyes around properly.
Muscles are also used to adjust the crystalline lens to allow the switch between near and far vision.
