William asks…
is this a good plan to lose 20 kgs ? ( 40 pounds)?
im 17 and i want to lose about 20 kgs. im 5 foot 4 and currently 76 kgs ( 167 pounds) and my bmi is 28. i deiced on new years that i was going to start a living a healthy life style ( i see the term diet as short term fix and don’t believe in them anymore) In the past 3 months i have already lost 16kgs
( 35 pounds). i’ve gone from a size very tight fitting AUS 18 (us 14) to very loose AUS 16 (us 12) in pants and a AUS 18 (us 14) to a AUS 14 (us 10) in shirt size. This is the first time i have ever tried to lose the weigh probably. Last year i lost about 5 kgs from dieting without exercise but that only lasted about a month and i gained all the weight back when i went back to my old weighs. This time im determined to become healthy and treat my body like a temple. i don’t think i have ever been this self motivated in my life. In January i didn’t really believe i could keep this up so all i did was eat healthy food like NO junkfood, NO sodas, only water and 1 cup of black coffee, i drink 8 or more glasses of water a day, i eat veggies and fruits and tuna and fish. just all healthy food. my only weakness is bread, i love bread but i know its just empty carbs so i try not to have it and if i do i only have about 2 slices a week.i have been pesatarian since the beginning of the year ( means i only eat fish and i don’t eat any meats or chicken ) i chose to become that because i didn’t like the fact that red meat says inside you for 28 days, and also that i always felt guilty eating living animals. at first it was really hard not eating all the junk food my parents buy, ( they are both over weight and eat so un healthy and as mean as its sounds i refuse to end up like them) every weak they buy boxes of cookies and and chocolate cake and bottles and bottles of coke and cream and chocolate and ice cream. so there is always junk food in the house. ( it gets so hard to not want it sometimes as i am surrounded by it 24/7 but i always tell myself nothing taste as good as healthy feels and i don’t eat it ) anyways before i deiced on my lifestyle change i had never exercised in my life. no joke, i was such a lazy bi tch. i would just watch tv and eat and eat and eat. Now i exercise a hour and half every day. i ride my bike for 30 mins a day ( i go fast enough to get my heart race at a good pace but not to intense) and then i do 30 minutes of kick boxing/ boxing with no break. my heat race is pumping quite fast then and im sweating quite a bit and then i do 30 mins of just random exercise, so like jumping jacks, running on sport for a couple of mins, push ups, pilates ect and i take no break while doing them so i just keep rotating through them. i sweat quite a bit here too and my heat rate is always up to. so basically i do a low, medium and high intense work out everyday. now that you know all of this probably useless stuff lol i have a couple of questions.
1. is this a good life style plan ?
2. Will i keep losing weight by doing this ?
3. should i exercise more ?
4. will i gain any mussel in my legs from bike ridding ? and will it be enough to effect the scales and add weight to them ?
5. what is the ideal weight i should be for my height. I don’t want to be one of those bony chicks with there ribs and hip bones sticking all freakishly out. i don’t want to look like a boy i want to look like a real women but be healthy and fit at the same time.
6. even though i lose 40 pounds i can’t see the difference with my eyes, like i look into the mirror and still see the same fat person i was before i lose that weight. my friends say i look heaps skinnier and i know i lost weight but the scales and the sizing of my clothes but i just can’t really see the difference.
7. i’ve read online that the first time someone trys to lose weight they usually just end up giving up and gaining more weight back ? and that 95% of people who lose weight gain it all back within the first years. this is quite a scary thought as i never want to go back but how come most people do ? will i mostly like go back to the same weight ? this is a very scary thought
8. i read online that teenagers who lose weight tend to keep it off ? is this true ? how come ?
9 . any advice would be great thanks and or motivation
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS, it means so much as i haven’t told anyone that im trying to loose all this weight.

Yes thats awesome u can lose weight.. U will get your results no problem at all
once a week u can have a cheat day where u eat what u want
also u will not gain big muscles from bike riding
and u should also hit the gym an do high rep weight training.. It helps lose weight and build metabolism..
If u gain some lean body weight its ok.. As long as u don’t gain fat .. U won’t

Wow that’s so inspirational. I’m also 17, 5 foot 4, and trying to lose weight, so you’re like a personal motivation provider haha
I lost loads a few years ago but have put it all (and more!) back on recently. I’m no expert dietician, but here’s my own opinion to your q’s:
1. Yes!
2. Yes!
3. I’d say you’re doing fantastic as is, don’t push yourself too much or you may get sick of it. Just increase your exercise slowly as you get fitter.
4. Yeah muscle weighs more, so if after a while you find yourself slowing down in actual weight loss, I’d just go by how fit and healthy you feel, how loose your clothes are etc.
5. Apparently around 55-60kgs is healthy for 5 foot 4
6. That’s not really a question but yeah I agree with you
7. Most of the people in those surveys are those who do the “skinny in 5 weeks” fad diets. They’re a load of rubbish which usually result in you putting the weight back on, as you’ve realised. You’ve actually changed your attitude towards health which is a far longer lasting (probably permanent) method.
8. I’ve not heard of this but yay if it’s true ![]()
9. Ha I couldn’t think of any motivation to give to you, you’re the one motivating me here! Seriously, congrats on the change of attitude and I hope I can take a leaf out of your book. Well done

First, you obviously are making a great step seeking self improvement and you also have the mindset and capacity to understand that you need to change. That there is understanding, and understanding leads to wisdom.
First, you CAN help yourself. Perhaps that there is a totally different subject all in its own, but there are a lot of self improvement articles on the web concerning temper and learning how to control yourself. The thing is , and I know this for a fact that it takes time and effort. You will have to make the first step in seeking the answers to that question.
Second: If you know your lazy, AND getting up late at 12 in the morning, dont you think getting things done earlier in the day will give you more free time to do whatever you want for the rest of the day? Hmmmm Having a friend or two to hang out with or have fun outside with makes the day feel great!
