Your Questions About An Impaired Use Of Language Is Known As

August 21, 2013

Lizzie asks…

Does anyone know how to cure brain damage?

My closed-head injury got worse and it’s impaired my writing, reading and other areas such as; focus, attention and reasoning. Does anybody know how I could cure this; get better and never have to go through this phase. Since I have brain damage and I have severe reading deficits along with short-attention span, how could I cure this or get a recovery from MTBI.

admin answers:

Hallo Alex, this is what I wrote to you before:
“The problems that result from MTBI depend on which part of the brain is damaged. For example one young man I worked with (car accident) was unable to recall nouns. He could remember verbs, and so if wanting to talk about a car ride he would say, “driving and cruising.”

Now I don’t think your problem is as serious as the young man I’ve mentioned as you write well, but you are aware that something has been lost which is good – you are aware. The important thing to do, is to pinpoint exactly what it is that you have difficulty with, and that’s what you practice. You might need professional help to do this. But if you can’t get help, then I suggest you write a list of short sentences in the way that sounds best to you. Make them as varied as possible and write about anything that interests you. I will try and find out what is is that you can’t recall and need to practice.

Then extent of your recovery depends on not just practice of things you have forgotten, but your age (the younger the better) and letting time pass. It takes time.

However, it is possible to forge new neural pathways, even if you are aged. This is done by (not just practice as I’ve said) but learning a new skill. This information is based on research. Learning a new musical instrument and/or a new foreign language (yes, really!) is the way to go.

If you find it difficult to understand what I have written to you, please tell me.”

Now I do stand by what I said to your last question, but I am very concerned that you say it is getting worse. This should not happen. You will not be able to cure your brain injury, but with professional help and rehabilitation you can improve on the lost areas. You may also need counseling to help you accept what has happened to you as stress about your situation does not assist you to move on. Have you got friends or family that can get you to professional help? The sooner you get help from people who know what they are doing the better the outcome for you.

With every best wish to you. There are some people on this website who will help you and some who will say really silly things. If you can be discerning please do so as incorrect advice will send you in the wrong direction.

Linda asks…

Do you have any information about stroke patients?

My mom just had a second stroke. She can’t speak or move( right side). Do you know anybody who can help me with it? What kind of rehabilitation we can do at home? Please help.

admin answers:

This is first site you should visit – it has info on everything related to stroke:

“Home Treatment
After a stroke, home treatment will be an important part of your rehabilitation.

You may need to use assistive devices to help you:

Eat. Large-handled silverware can be easier to grab and use if you have a weak hand. If you have trouble swallowing, your doctor may provide you with a feeding tube to use at home.
Get dressed. Devices called reachers can help you put on socks or stockings if you have weakness in one arm or hand.
Walk. Canes and walkers can be used to help prevent falls.
Tips for a successful recovery
Be as involved as possible in your care. Although you may feel like letting a caregiver take charge, the more you can participate, the better. Ask for help in dealing with any disabilities you may have, and try to make people understand your limitations.
Recognize and deal with depression. Depression is common after a stroke, and it can be treated.
Participate in a stroke rehabilitation program as soon as possible. After a stroke, a combination of physical, speech, and occupational therapies can help you manage the basics of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and eating. A team that includes a doctor, a variety of therapists, and nurses will work with you to overcome disabilities, learn new ways to accomplish tasks, and strengthen parts of your body impaired by the stroke. For more information, see the topic Stroke Rehabilitation.
Tips for dealing with the effects of a stroke
Managing getting dressed. Getting dressed may be easier if you use stocking/sock spreaders, rings or strings attached to zipper pulls, and buttonhooks. Talk with a nurse or occupational therapist about assistive devices that may be available to help you get dressed.
Managing vision problems. After a stroke, some people have problems seeing to one side. For example, people with right-sided paralysis may have difficulty seeing to the right.
Managing eating problems. You may not be able to feel food on one or both sides of your mouth. This increases your risk for choking. You may need further tests or an evaluation by a speech therapist.
Managing bowel and bladder problems. Some people who have a stroke suffer loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence) after the stroke. However, this is usually temporary, and it can have many causes, including infection, constipation, and the effects of medicines.
Tips for family members and caregivers
Family adjustment will be important to your loved one’s recovery. Strong support from the family can greatly enhance recovery.
Help manage speech and language problems with some simple tips. These problems may involve any or all aspects of language use, such as speaking, reading, writing, and understanding the spoken word. Speaking slowly and directly and listening carefully can help.
Rehabilitation support involves participating in your loved one’s rehabilitation as often as you can. Give as much support and encouragement as possible.
For more information on rehabilitation at home, see the topic Stroke Rehabilitation.

Although stroke rehabilitation is increasingly successful at prolonging life, a stroke can be a disabling or fatal condition. People who have had a stroke may consider discussing health care and other legal issues that may arise near the end of life. Many people find it helpful and comforting to state their health care choices in writing with a living will or other advance directive while they are still able to make and communicate these decisions. For more information, see the topic Care at the End of Life.”

Your Questions About For Those Tears I Died

August 20, 2013

Susan asks…

What is the best type of bullet that I should use for deer hunting?

I just got done deer hunting last week and I use Remington Core-Lokt 180gr SP bullet for my Remington 700. I shot a deer with it, I had to shoot it twice and when I was cleaning it I found both bullets inside the deer and the meat was the torn up. The bullets didn’t mushroom like they were suppose to but then that could be from hitting bone maybe? I would like to find a new bullet with 180gr but with knock down power and that wont tear everything up.
well the bullet just blew up in the deer. It didn’t go through or anything it just simply blew up.
That’s where I shot it, in the ribs. I shot it in the vitals.

admin answers:

I shot a couple of deer using 165 gr. Core-Lokt/.30-06 this year. One was shot at 10 yards, the bullet penetrated the lungs while fragmenting into oblivion, as the impact velocity was too high to hold together. The deer died within 10 feet of where it was shot.

The other deer was shot at 100 yards, the bullet entered the rear of the left shoulder, started tumbling, took out a chunk of lung and exited on the same side at the rear of the rib cage. I had to track this deer down and finish it with my knife.

My point? Bullets don’t often perform as the textbook says they will. If you take out the lungs, heart, or arteries at the top of the heart the deer will die quickly. Most of the time the problem is the shot you took, not the bullet you used. If you want greater bullet upset, use a lighter bullet such as 150 or 165 gr.

James asks…

what do you think of the brazilian model that died of anorexia?

what is your opinion about anorexia and the model that the media and the society shows? the model of a skinny woman… and what do you think about the new laws in Spain and in Argentina that talk about this problem?
Have any of you had anorexia or bulimia?

admin answers:

I have not and i think that anyone who does have an eating disorder needs to go see a doctor. I have friends that have gone through it briefly…. Wasn’t fun. It’ll make you skinny fast but you wont have any energy, you’ll constantly look and feel tired, your nails will get brittle and your hair will eventually lose your hair. No one i know has let it get that far though.

Society is partially to blame for planting the idea that skinny is the only form of beautiful but these people cant blame it just on that. Their stupidity is mostly at fault. Not eating will actually make you gain more weight when you start to eat again because your body goes into starvation mode. Making yourself puke will tear up your throat and cause your teeth to discolor. That doesn’t sound beutiful to me. Exercising and eating RIGHT will make you healthily lose weight. And stay that way.

As for the models: it is awful to kill yourself for a magazine cover.

Paul asks…

My fish died and now I am really upset?

Some of you may think, so what it is just a fish? But I don’t think of it that way?
I am in tears coz my fish died, because I absoluteley love animals and I cry even when a snail dies?
Any way to help stop being upset?

admin answers:

Just think that they are no longer suffering from what it was that killed them. I get upset when pets die too, even fish.

Your Questions About For Those About To Rock Lyrics

August 19, 2013

George asks…

Is there a band that is really comparable to Evanescence?

I absolutely love Evanescence and I know that We Are The Fallen is coming out with their debut soon…however I was wondering if there were any other bands out there that have the same kind of sound as them. When I say “sound” I mean like the female singer, orchestral background, meaningful lyrics, and still that rock feeling. Videos and sound clips would really help.

admin answers:

IMO there are no other bands that really sound like EV (except maybe We Are the Fallen, for obvious reasons), but here are some other female-fronted bands that you might also like:

- Krypteria, “The Night All Angels Cry” (
- Stream of Passion, “When You Hurt Me the Most” (
- Within Temptation, “Angels” (
- Nightwish, “Amaranth” (
- Autumn, “The Heart Demands” (
- After Forever, “Energize Me” (
- In This Moment, “Lost at Sea” (
- Halestorm, “Familiar Taste of Poison” (
- Unveiled, “The Overwhelming” (

Your Questions About For Those Who Think Young

August 18, 2013

Linda asks…

Why do people assume that young people don’t make enough money to support kids?

And that young people like to drink and go out etc? I get annoyed with the stereotype, most of my friends are 30+ and I don’t see how my life is any different to theirs. I am 23 and have a 3 year old and a 4 week old. Tell me why people would assume that we do not have enough money or that our relationship isn’t strong or that we are too young?
Not quite, my fiance makes $45 an hour, but his pay goes up every year
Isabella’s mummy – I know what you mean. And that’s what it is like for us not with age but where we live, as soon as people know we live up north they assume we are loaded and start expecting things hahaha
kidfree- until mid 2008 the australian dollar was almost equal to the US dollar

admin answers:

I am 24 and am engaged. Our daughter is 1 yr old in a week. My fiance earns $1200 per week. To me that is a lot of money and It really bugs me that people think that we cant take care of our daughter. The funny part is, when they find out my fiances age (39) they think we have all the money in the world. It is so strange how people can think this.

That is Australian dollars by the way.

Yeah, LOL. My reatives live in a small country town and we live on the Gold Coast in Australia so they think we are loaded.

Joseph asks…

Is there any truth in the statement that younger gays react negatively to older gay men? read details?

Berger in his book, “Gay and Gray; The older homosexual male “stated that “Most older gays feel that young people sometimes take advantage of them, do not welcome their company in bars, clubs and bathhouses, do not care to associate or form friendships with them and think they are dull company”
Is his observation true or false?

admin answers:

I think the observation is true, but not just for gays, for everyone. Most people have a problem with getting old, and they shun those who remind them of what they’ll eventually become. This could be extra true for the gay community, where it appears so much emphasis is placed on youth and looks.

Lisa asks…

Do homophobic conservatives know that younger people are more supportive of gay rights?

Polls show that young people are more in favor of gay marriage and repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell” than old people. So do old, homophobic conservatives know that their bigotry is only going to last in the legal landscape for so long? It will be twenty years max when gay marriage will spread to the whole country. Even Texas will have gay marriage. You may be battling now, but you will lose the war. When the new generation slowly gets into Congress, all this bigotry will end. Do you know that?

admin answers:

Knowing something is biologically wrong doesn’t create a phobia, it just means you know better.
