It indicates some mental health problems besides physical health problems.

Donna asks…

What can cause severe muscle tension without much pain (+ other symptoms)?

Exercise, muscle relaxants, and stress relief don’t relieve my muscle tension (scalp, neck, shoulders, upper back) at all and the massage therapist I saw can’t even get my muscles to move more than a few millimeters. She told me to see a doctor as what she saw was pretty abnormal, but my doctor doesn’t seem to be taking it seriously, attributing it all to depression. She did refer me to a neurologist because I’ve had other symptoms, but it’s not till the end of the month and I’m absolutely miserable, so I figured I might as well try here. maybe not a good idea, but there are sometimes people here who really know what they’re talking about so I thought I’d give it a try. :)

other symptoms: really weird feelings that seem incongruent with my actual emotional state/attitude, almost constantly, yellow and blue spots in my vision, muscle weakness on one side of my face, horrible pressure in the back of my head, brain fog, feet turning purple and red and white if I’m exposed to cold for even a few seconds (and feel like they’re on fire if I take a warm shower), tremors, deep horizontal grooves in my toenails. this has all been going on for about 6 months, except for the feet thing, which has been going on for maybe two years.

I randomly felt euphoric one day last week, out of absolutely nowhere–it had been an awful day, I was in total anguish and needless to say was not thinking positive thoughts (though I’m typically optimistic, even when I feel awful). All I’d done was lean my head back and rest my eyes for a few minutes. Which I’ve tried tons of times before and after with few results, so I don’t think that was the trigger…and less than 24 hours later I was feeling terrible again. There was also no change in my muscle tension or head pressure when this mood change happened. & to clarify I guess I wasn’t exactly euphoric, there were still major issues in my peripheral, but I felt like I was actually experiencing my normal emotions again.

Like I said, after really examining my thoughts and feelings and trying a bunch of stress relief tactics, I’m no longer willing to chalk this up to stress, as I did for the first couple months. Hypochondria is also out of the question, as is anxiety–I know what anxiety feels like and this is a different thing, plus I never worry about my health. I’m considering going on antidepressants and seeing what happens, but I’d rather not. It’s definitely an issue, but I’m not convinced that’s the whole problem.

Anyway, any thoughts? My blood work is fine, some things barely in the low range (potassium, alkaline something, and my TSH was like .2 away from being low). I have widespread pain, mostly in my knees, but it’s mostly mild; I’d been having headaches every day before the pressure started and for a while when it was beginning, but it wasn’t excruciating or anything. I’m kind of wondering about meningeal compression or Lyme disease? No clue though. I know self-diagnosis is really unreliable, but the symptoms do seem to fit, especially the location of the head pressure/pain (spot-on for both).

Thanks! I would really appreciate any answers, but if you are going to tell me it’s all in my head, please just ignore this.
sorry this is so long.

admin answers:

It sounds a lot like Lyme Disease. The join pain in knees vision problem.. Tight feeling in head.
I was just diagnosed with Lyme Disease and had similar head problems and slight vision problems as well. Especially when exposed to light.
The right side of my head was really tight and my cheek felt really numb.

Ruth asks…

What do I have? fatigue/sleepiness and more?

I originally posted this under general health but decided to copy and paste it over here because It may be psychological. Also sorry it’s so long I just didn’t wanna miss anything.

I’ve been searching my symptoms all over the internet trying to figure what I have and from what I can tell it seems like I have anemia, but I’d like some more opinions from people who know more about this stuff than I do.

symptoms:
-Sensitive to cold weather/cold hands

-Weird sensation that I get when I stand up, makes me dizzy and fogs my vision with dots(sometimes to the point where I can’t see for a couple seconds)

-shortness of breath and low stamina when doing anything physical

-I get a feeling in my chest that’s hard to describe, to get rid of it I jsut need to take a really deep breath but sometimes I can’t even breathe deep enough to get rid of it

-muscle fatigue

-very tired, regardless of how much sleep I get. Sometimes I will get a burst of energy from somewhere that lasts a few mins to a couple hours.(also have more energy at night)
-energy drinks/coffee don’t really stimulate me at all.

-somewhat frequent headaches of different types: either just a constant pain on the top of my head/forhead that worsens with physical activity and usually lasts most or all of the day; a strong very painful one behind one of my eyes, gets worse with movement, sound, and light and also lasts all day; or a throbbing pain in my head(almost feels like my brain) that hurts when I stand up or do anything that requires much energy, it seems to throb along with the beat of my heart.

-constant leg bouncing, similar to restless leg syndrome/adhd.

-I’m also very skinny, I probably don’t get quite enough physical exercise for my age and I eat a lot of junk food but im still 5’11 and like 135 pounds

-hair loss, not to the point where it’s noticeable to anyone but me or whoever cuts my hair but if i run my fingers through my hair it’ll pull a few pieces out and I often notice strands of hair on my shoulder that must haveve fallen out.

— some more cognitive/psychological symptoms, I don’t know if they are relevant but I’m just gonna include anything that could possible be relevant because I don’t know what is and I’d rather not leave out something significant

-I have a bad memory and a TERRIBLE short term memory. I’ll sometimes forget what I said a couple sentences ago and sometimes get distracted for a second and forget what I’m thinking of mid thought. My long term memory can be amazing or terrible when remembering seemingly similar things. I don’t know what’s up with that probably unrelated but you never know, also maybe someone could explain that to me.

-very bad focus/attention. When I’m not to busy sleeping to pay attention in class I have a hard time not drifting off no matter how hard I try. It’s not like I’ll just zone out in to nothing, my mind is just always coming up with new thoughts and they often sidetrack me.

-A general feeling of apathy, Not like I’m depressed and sad or anything it’s just that I don’t really care about anything nearly as much as I should. I failed 9th grade(due to extreme laziness/lack of effort not because I’m a complete idiot, I actually do extremely well tests/quizzes, but terrible on homework/classwork/participation) and just shrugged it off, same with when my cat died. Could be partially because I’m very good at supressing feelings or just looking at the bright side, but I also don’t get super happy or excited over a lot of things that other people usuallly do. I know that’s textbook depression right there but I don’t really feel depressed nor do I have anything to be that depressed about(possibly “existential depression” if anything but still probably not)

-Mild OCD type symptoms, eg: when I look at my left foot/left hand/hair on the left side of my head, I have to look at the left side an equal amount. I also can’t get a drink from my fridge if I don’t first through the cup up and make it do 2 flips then catch it cleanly with the same hand. A lot like an ocd type ritual but I think if I tried hard enough I could stop doing it(the cup thing that is, not the symmetry thing)

ok sorry about the huge list, I just didn’t want to leave anything out. Just a few more quick things that may mean something…

I’m an 18 year old male and about 5’11 and 135 pounds. I have pretty bad eating habits and could use a little more exercise. I don’t really do any drugs or smoke or anything, but I have been taking my friends adderall every once in a while to help me with school. My mom and brother both have anemia(I’m pretty sure it’s from iron deficiency, and I don’t know if that can be hereditary or not)

Ok.. finally done, thanks in advance for any responses

admin answers:

Hi Mojo!

It is a good thing that you are aware of some of your symptoms and it seems as though you are very concerned about yourself and your body, and that is a very good thing.

I would suggest that you schedule an appointment with your family practioner for a physical. Copy and paste these questions that are concerning you and present it to him/her or go over your concerns in depth as well as your eating habits. You may need a routine physical and possibly bloodwork to rule out anemia, etc. You may need to change your eating habits as well, as you may be somewhat underweight based on your height.

You also have concerns of some type of apathy, which could be a symptom of depression, OCD type symptoms, which may require a referral to seek a Mental Health Evaluation with a Pychiatrist.. Not to be afraid, they are there to help you and may suggest therapy and/or medication.

I would definately be open and honest about your taking your friends Adderal, not being prescribed to you. I am not an expert on this stimulant, but do understand that it is a drug that should be prescribed only to the person that has been diagnosed with a disorder that requires him/her to take the prescribed medications and more than likely needs to be taken on a regular basis. I would advise you not to take it unless your Doctor has prescribed it for a condition that You have. Taking it could also cause some of your symptoms that you described, including loss of appitete, etc.

No reflection on you, yourself, but I hope you may take some of this advice and ponder on your symptoms and get the proper care you deserve to become a strong, funtioning adult that you can become.

Peace and Good Luck in becoming healthy!

admin answers:

You were recently diagnosed with depression, does that mean you recently went onto anti-depressants? Most of the things listed are side effects of anti-depressants. Most are also the effect of lack of sleep and poor diet. You don’t ‘have’ anything that you’re not aware of.

admin answers:

Iron deficiency anemia is not really hereditary… And it’s not terribly common in the civilized world because there are so many sources of iron in our diets. There are some hereditary conditions that can cause some forms of anemia. It’s hard to tell just on what you’ve said, but there are a number of tests that can be run. A simple CBC can determine if you are indeed anemic. It’s easy and cheap. Some of the other tests to get a more specific answer may be a little more expensive, but many of those tests are still cheap and easy.

Another thing that it could be is hypothyroidism. Alot of what you describe sounds very similar to hypothyroidism (the most common cause of which is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis). This too can be diagnosed with simple, cheap blood tests that will look at your TSH, T3, and T4… As well as some other antibodies.

I would say it’s work checking out for sure. Too hard to really diagnose over the internet, but a few blood tests could be done and give you alot of answers.

Charles asks…

Does this sound like I have Diabetes?

I am a 15 year old white girl. I am 4’11 1/2. Weigh anywhere between 89-93 pounds. No one in my immediate family has Diabetes. Though I think some extended family members *might* have type two Diabetes. My mom is 47 and obese and has insulin resistance.

I have always been in the underweight to a good weight category for my weight. As of right now my BMI is in the normal range. I have NEVER EVER been overweight not even by one pound!

I eat horrible. I eat tons of chocolate in a day, I go through about 10 cans of Pepsi in a day (and this is the only beverage I drink I don’t drink anything else, ever.) I have lots of frozen things, have pizza for breakfast, will have pepsi for breakfast, eats TONS and tons of chocolate in a day, eat lots of white bread. And I get very little to no exercise.

I have ate like this since I was 2 years old. I started eating candy and drinking pepsi and haven’t stopped since. Always had a horrible diet.

But my siblings have had a bad diet also and my mother as well (maybe not quite so terrible as mine.) and they don’t have Diabetes.

I literally have almost every symptom of Type 2 Diabetes.
Fatigue. I am ALWAYS tired. But is this because of diabetes, or just because I have a bad diet and don’t get enough sleep?
Excessive thirst. I don’t know if I would call this “excessive.” Maybe increased. But is this because of Diabetes, or because I only drink Pepsi and I heard that’s dehydrating and I eat a lot of salty food and of course now it’s summer and it’s hot out. And your supposed to drink like 8 glasses of water a day and I drink… none. So maybe normal?
Excessive urination. Again. Don’t know if I would call this excessive. I don’t know if I go a normal amount or not. And maybe just UTI’s. I wet my bed twice when I was 13 and that freaked me out. Since I hadn’t done that since I was like 6. And I haven’t ever done it since then though.
Unexplained weight loss. I don’t know if I’m losing a bunch of weight or not. I haven’t gained any weight in a while. (don’t know how long.) But I can be 92 pounds one day and the next weight 87. so?
Always hungry. Again, don’t know if this is abnormal or not. Maybe a growth spurt? Or just a normal amont of hunger since I eat so bad?
And I get frequent UTI’s. I don’t know if this is really UTI’s or not. I have been getting what I think is on and off recurrent UTI’s for about 8 months now. Never been diagnosed by a doctor or anything. Don’t know if it is a UTI or not. But the symtoms seem to disappear without going to a doctor or doing anything for it.
Blurry vision. My vision is blurry in things off in a distance I have to be up close to see. But Diabetes or a need some glasses? Haven’t been to an eye doctor in years. My dad and brother and sister and pretty much every extended family member has glasses. So maybe just need some glasses? It is getting worse though.
I have a hard time concentrating. I don’t know if this is a symtom or not. I don’t have ADD or ADHD. Maybe it’s just from all of the suger?
Wound healing. I think my wounds heal at a pretty normal amont. I small scratch takes a day or two to scab over and bleeding stops within just about 15 seconds. So I don’t know if normal or not? I think it is though.
Also I don’t seem to ever get sick. I seem to have a pretty strong immune system, family gets sick and I am around them 24/7 and never get sick.
My feet have felt numbish/tingly the past couple of days. I have always had very cold hands and feet and so maybe poor circulation?

So yeah I have a few symtoms, but Diabetes or just bad diet, no sleep, need glasses, etc?
My family all has the same diet as me and my mom and sister are overweight and my sister is 25 and has a really bad diet too but doesn’t have Diabetes. And I am young and skinny. And my mom is obese and old but doesn’t have it!!!

And nobody has ever said anything like “wow you drink a lot, eat a lot, etc.

I have had these symtoms for 2-3 years. And other than the vision they have all stayed about the same hasn’t really gotten any worse. And I have grown/gained weight since then. And I have uh reached puberty so.

About a year and half ago and I had drop of blood taken and had to pee in a cup for unrelated reasons and everything was normal. If I had Diabetes would anything been abnormal in these tests? I had symtoms of at least a year before this.

Going to a doctor isn’t an option. I mentioned this to my mom one time but she didn’t believe me and I don’t think I will be going to the doctor to get a blood sugar test done so…

Sorry if this is so long but am wondering if you guys thought I had Diabetes or not with these symtoms and my history?

Any help would be greatly apperciated.

I realize that this should probably be in the Diabetes section, but I wasn’t get any an

admin answers:

The best and easiest thing to do is tell your parents and have them set up a doctors appointment. It is their best wishes to make sure your health is 100% fine. If you dont have a doctor then go to a Health Care Clinic (like CareNow). Who cares if it might be expensive, this is worth your life and could very well safe you money in the long run.

Dont hesistate set up a appointment soon, it could be prediabetes, and with prediabetes you can stop the prediabetes forever to live a normal regular life.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME FOR YOU TO HAVE A GOOD DIET SINCE YOUR BODY IS GROWING. By the way please try to drink water, dont you want to be that pretty lady in school? Change your diet so can stay skinny. I know you can grow out of that phase drinking sodas all the time, try a alternative to sodas, like juice, koolaid, all natural flavoring water aid.

Charles asks…

is something wrong with my head ?

If your arent going to be helpful please dont bother posting .
Im directing it to people that post irrelevant things, nonhelpful comments, or just plain “go see a doctor”.
Thank you .

-before problem -
I used to think nonstop .
Id always be daydreaming, thinking outside the box, play impossible scenerios in my head, place myself in other peoples shoes, etc.
Id love puzzles and anything to get my head thinking .

However, summer started and i got EXTREMELY lazy .
id never do anything besides sit infront of my computer screen all day for the whole summer .
The rare times i got out was to try smoking weed (yes i did it a few times just to try)
it wasnt that great so i quit after a few times . (ive also tried salvia but quit too)
My summer was just drugs, nonstop computer, and staying up till 4-6AM and sleeping in till 4-5 PM every day.
After about 2 months of this lazy schedule i started to notice a problem with my head (maybe started before ? im just assuming around this time)

-problem-
I could not think at all .
my mind is constantly blank even now .
if i try to think of something, i cant remember and i cant think .
im often light headed, left with a headache, or both .
Even my sense of time is messed up .
i can get in the shower 5 minutes ago and it feels like ive been in there for 30 minutes already. Sometimes i even wonder when i got in the shower.
I have trouble thinking and focusing .
i cant day dream, think outside the box, or anything in general .
LITERALLY blank minded. its scary thinking about how smart i was before and now im suddenly so blank. im afraid it might be like this forever . Feels like just waking up, how your eyes are open but your mind is still asleep and blank/ fuzzy .
Ive been like this for quite a while .

Since school started ive been waking up early and sleeping early.
ive been doing school weight trainning for exercise
however im still on my comptuer most of the day.
ive quit all drugs but still smoke a cigerette once or twice a month .
ive been sitting blank mindedly for quite a while. Please help ?

-Request-
if you have any idea what this might be please tell me
Can it be fixed, if so how ?
Any suggestions ?

Thank you all in advance. Terribly sorry for the long read.

admin answers:

I’m no pro but I can’t imagine living in a world without day dreaming and letting my mind go nuts soooo. The drugs could of caused some after affect especially the weed, since some of the symptoms match up with the behavior of people who do weed. Even though you quit, it can still have some sort of effect on the body, like most drugs in general. It could also be a neurological problem, maybe you unbalanced something. I’m blaming most of it on the drugs but it could also be something else you’re not aware of. Losing the sense of time is a neurological symptom, your sleeping habits are also related to that area, trouble thinking and just basically normal functions of the brain that can’t be done are all neuro. I’m sorry but you should see a doctor, if it’s a disease it could get worse. I don’t mean to scare you, but it’s really ill advised to decide not to see a doctor. It could just be something simple, or temporary but you should find out for sure, it’s better than not knowing.

George asks…

Am I ill, or is it just ‘the student phase’?

Recently (this past year) I’ve been tired (I can sleep for 16+ hours a day if time allows it and still feel tired, or as little as 6 hours and still be tired), I’ve lost a lot of brain function eg; memory, thought process, eloquence & linguistics, (I did have a 170+ IQ) and my grasp on reality (I hallucinate occasionally, constantly see shapes and shadows which I mistake for bugs but there’s nothing there, etc.) Also, sometimes I totally tune out, so when I hear people speaking english, eg; if my friend says “pick up the ball” I won’t understand a word she says and will have to ask her over and over before I can understand the clear English she is speaking. I also get headaches (in my eyes, actually) from time to time, as well as twinges in my neck and back (though I do crack my bones like dry twigs constantly, including my thumbs, neck, back, knees, nose, jaws, wrists, shoulders, ankles, elbows, toes, coxix (lower back), middle two fingers, basically every joint.) thougn only my back and neck twinge. I also have odd, recurring dreams that I can change through actions in the dream, because I KNOW In a dream it’s a dream if I’ve had it before. That, and occasionally when I dream something random (like being in class) it then happens within about a week, but I’ve always had that.

My dad tells me it’s what he calls ‘The Student Phase’ where I can’t be arsed to do anything, even speak because its not life-or-death, and I’m just being a lazy teen (I’m 15).
I’m just over 11st, and a size 14 (UK) and about 5ft 8 ish. I can’t seem to lose weight when I diet and exercise, but I don’t gain any when I eat junk food and sleep all day.
Can someone advise me if I’m ill, or if its just me being a teen and just getting a little lazy and edgy?

admin answers:

I think you should definitaly go see a doctor.

I have a few of the same symptoms as you mainly the tired all the time, and eye headaches and i see shadows that aren’t there. Nobodys been able to explain those to me. They’re almost like the aura before a migraine… But not. Somehow they are different but thats the closest to describing them I can get. I’m in college (20) and exhausted to the max. I work part time and go to school full time as a nursing student and have clinicals 7am-7pm on the weekends. I know I’m not just lazy but I always feel lousy somehow. I’ve even considered depression and while I haven’t taken meds, I saw a therapist who thinks I’m dealing with my life normally. So… Sorry that I can’t help you but do know you’re not alone.

The reason I say to go see your doctor is that those symptoms can be part of a tumor or something serious. If they do the right tests and rule everything dangerous out (or even mono, who knows?) then you’ll have peace of mind and can just live with the “student phase” diagnosis.

Hope you feel better!! =)

Thomas asks…

I am so tired all the time an it’s really affecting me in school/life (I’m 15)?

SO I know sleep is important, but I barely get any. On average I get about 5-6 hours a night on weekdays, and I rarely go to bed before 12. Now I know that’s BAD but I have so much freaking homework all the time and I’ll admit I am very lazy. But another thing is I always have to get stuff for school ready the night before so I won’t be panicky in the mornings.

Anyway, even when I do get sleep I’m still extremely tired, even on the weekends. And when I come back from school I’m EXHAUSTED!! And I eat pretty healthy and I’m trying to exercise more again but I’m seriously so damn tired I can barely get up (and no I’m not fat or anything not even chubby). Even in the summer when I got 10 hours + of sleep and exercising every day I was still extremely tired. I am pale, and also weak all the time.

And this DID NOT just start, this has been going on for years. I’ve already been tested for anemia/low iron deficiency, and apparently I don’t have it. My blood is perfect, I don’t have asthma, I get sick occasionally but I KNOW that’s not the reason.

I don’t understand how my friends who get like less than 4 hours of sleep a night are as bright as day at school while when I get 5 hours I can barely keep my eyes open. It’s really affecting my concentration, but I seriously can’t help it. I have a hard time falling asleep, like it takes me hours and it always has unless I go to sleep when I’m really tired which is like at around 11:30-12:00 sometimes. Sometimes even when I’m tired I have trouble falling asleep. And I REALLY want to take up sports but I’m seriously so weak and tired but I’m only 15!!! I mean now I’m wondering what am I supposed to do when I’m older and be even MORE tired????? SHould I see a doctor?
I’m just clearing thins up right now:

1. I actually think I do have low serotonin levels b/c that’s what my doctor told me.
2. I’m tired at night too, I don’t think I have Night Owl Syndrome.
3. My mom and great grandmother have thyroid problems. Could that be it?

admin answers:

First you should talk to your parents about this. Yes you do need to go to a Dr. Ask him or she if you can check your B-12 level. There are many reasons why you are tired all time, low B-12, depression which is low serotonin to the brain, etc…. Yes check it out. Good Luck.

admin answers:

Im a Fruititarian because I eat more fruits than veggies. I also eat rice pasta’s breads cous cous and other things you can eat plenty of different things you dont have to make veggies your main stable. Make yourself a fruit smoothy in the morning or have some dried fruit and nut or even trail mix with chocolate in it to snack on if your hungry. There are lots of things you can eat, hell you can even eat top ramen if you really want to just dont use the seasoning packet try something else like tomato sauce or put olive in it or whatever.

Nancy asks…

What will my final height be?

I’m currently 17, 18 in May, and am 5’10. My dad is 5’9, and my mom is 5’6/5’7.

On my dad’s side, his brother and sister are short (5’6 and under), but that’s due to their mom’s genetics who comes from a shorter family. His dad was my height, 5’10, and came from semi-tall genetics.

My mom comes from tall genetics. All of her brothers were 6’1-6’3, and coincidentally, all of my male cousins are 6’1- 6’6 (female cousins hover around 5’8). All of her brothers were about my height until 18, and then hit a growth spurt between 18 and 19 and got their final height. My one cousin who is 20 in May was around 6’1 when he turned 18, and then shot up to 6’4 between ages 18 and 19.

Now, I take more after my mom’s side. Facial features, body structure (except for my feet, I got those from my grandpa on my dad’s side), and body hair (my dad has practically no body hair and has very little on his face, whereas my legs, arms, and pubes are ridiculously hairy, and my face is on it’s way) hair from my mom’s side. Really the only things I got from my dad’s side of the family are nice, blue eyes and his hairline (which is a good thing).

I’ve pretty much experienced every part of puberty except for two things: growth spurt and an excess amount of facial hair. I’ve been fairly skinny most of my teenage, and have yet to go through a growth spurt. There’s been no dramatic change in weight until recently (I’ve put on 25-30 pounds, which is good). There’s been no dramatic increase in height, only steady gains. A tracker of my height:
Age 12: 5’0
Age 14: 5’6
Age 16: 5’8
Age 17: 5’8 – 5’8 1/2
Since November of 2011, I’ve grown 1 1/2 to 2 inches (in 5 months). Over the years I’ve grown an average of 2 inches per year, and this year seems to be abnormal. I’m predicting 5’11 by this summer.
As far as facial hair goes, I just started getting facial hair around last spring.

I still have growing pains, and have been experiencing them a lot more than last year. Last year I could count all the growing pains I had on one hand, a few months ago I started getting them more frequently, and for the past month or two I’ve been having growing pains 3-4 days a week (mostly in my arms, legs, shoulders, and hips/lower back).

The sudden growth spurt might have to do with me being more active. The last couple of years I’ve been lazy. I’ve spent most of my time inside on the computer, rather than outside exercising. Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been exercising regularly: working out, running, and playing basketball (the last one takes up the majority of my time).

So long story short, how tall would you expect me to be?

admin answers:

Your genetic potential based on your parent’s heights is about 5’11″.

So Yes, you are going through a growth spurt, and at the end of this summer can be about 5’11″.

Susan asks…

Help & advise about anorexia?

hey i have started recovery from anorexia ( about 5 weeks now ). im 18, 5 foot 6. I was told if i didn’t put on weight i would have to go in as a inpatient but really want to do it in the comfort of my own home. i have a few questions i would like answering

1. I am following a meal plan constructed by my amazing dietrition but 2 days ago i started yet another suppliment called calogen i took it for a day and i weighed myself the next morning and my weight had gone from 6 stone to 6stone6 in a day. I also notice yesterday that my ankles were really puffy. i just wondered if anyone was in the same situation.

2. Also i was given a portion size list and i get my mom to plate up my meals now ( which is a big improvement i must say :D ) but when its time to eat i don’t feel hungry but complete everything that is on my plate because i know its the right thing to do. my worry is that as my portion size has got bigger i can clear my plate but dont ever feel full or uncomfortable.is this normal??? this is a problem for me because at the moment my meal plan consists of 3 meals, 2 snacks, 2 fruit juices, 1 can of ensure and the calogen taken 3 times a day and in my eyes for the amount i have been eating i should feel full. shouldn’t i???

3. I have done no exercise for a while now and to start with it really did bother me because i felt fat and lazy all the while but now it doesn’t seem to concern me at all. I would like to start doing sit ups and/or crunches but i have been told that you are suppose to gain the weight before you start doing this. is this true or would anyone recommend that i do them as i gain weight and, if so how many do you suggest i do daily?

4. when i started recovery i cried every time it came to eating something but for the past 2 weeks i have been fine with it all and have even started adding little things like butter and my bread and small things like that. over the past 2 weeks tho, i have had no anorexic thoughts or feelings really , which is a good thing but is it normal to just suddenly stop having them?

5. the last thing is, if any recovering/ recovered anorexics would tell me about their recovery (feelings, meal plans, sorts of foods you eat, exercise, what changes in your body you experienced, words of motivation, ect) i would love to read about them so at least i won’t feel alone and know that i am doing the right things.

IM SORRY HOW LONG THESE QUESTIONS ARE BUT ANSWERS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Much love kaylz xx

admin answers:

The puffy ankles is oedema, best to tell the dr because the sudden increase in food leads to re-feeding syndrome, not always but it’s common, so make sure you let your dietician know EXACTLY what symptoms you are having.

About the anorexic thoughts, yeah it will stop, but if you get them, deal with the emotions by crying / writing it out / talking to someone. But try not to take it out on food. You will deal with the emotions, but the challenge is to take the focus away from food like the anorexia wants you too. YOU are stronger than anorexia, dont let it control you.

Try not to exercise, if you must, just walk for 15-20mins a day maximum. At least for now, then you can safely increase the walking to 30-45mins a day. Try taking up something like salsa dancing, or swimming once you feel ready. You’d keep your fitness level, help regain / repair your muscles too. But again, not too soon. Try and only exercise when you feel ready and ready enough that you can ENJOY it, and not do it to burn calories / lose weight.

About feeling full, its best to eat slowly but not too slowly, it helps you -not be full-, so i’m guessing thats what you’re doing. It’s better for the digestive system too as obviously if someone ate faster, they experience gas and bloating and of course indegestion. You’re on the right track, KEEP GOING!
And WELL DONE :)

Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Better Vision

Jenny asks…

I fainted in class…really scared..need advice?

I fainted for a short time like barely a minute in class today. The room was steaming hot and wasn’t feeling good all day. I suppositly didn’t bang my head the teacher caught me while I was up to tell her I need to go to the nurse and I opened my eyes and I was on the floor. Before I fainted i felt like I was going to throw up in like the pit of my stomach and my vision got all blurryish and then like i felt warm, but the room was unbearablely hot! I woke up and like I snapped back to normal i was completely fine and vision perfect. My head hurts a tiny bit i don’t know if it’s stress from embarrassment I mean I was rolled out in a wheel chair for gods sake and I felt fine, I’m a little tired I wake up early for school which is normal. This happened to me last year a couple times(I was just a little shakey then like I cooled my face down and I was perfectly fine no fainting but blurrish vision again), i don’t eat that much in school on the count of i’m not hungry. I’ve been exercising and cutting down my food lately, possible not taking the approaite calories in a day. My mom talked to a doctor and said to take me to the ER I flipped and I don’t know if my head hurts from whatever I just have a little head ache nothing serious, but I’m really scared to get blood work done if I go like what should I do?!?!

I need help!

p.s
wasn’t feeling to great all day and then my friend had a bad headache the night we had a sleepover before we went to bed..i don’t know I just need advice!

admin answers:

Not eating enough food could be the problem, but I highly insist that you go to the E.R. Or doctor either today or tomorrow. Its always best to be on the safe side, especially when it comes to passing out.

right now my head doesn’t hurt that much now that I calmed down, but still when i think it hurts like I need to relax you know?

admin answers:

Well, if the classroom was very hot that may have been the cause of you fainting. I almost had that happen to me once. But if it’s happened before, there’s a possibility that something serious may be wrong. Don’t be scared of getting blood work done. I was scared before I did, but it’s not as bad as you think.

Betty asks…

Possible Lyme Disease instead of Levaquin poisoning?

I thought I had Levaquin poisoning from ONE pill I took 3 months ago. (I took one 750 MG pill the next day I had neuropathy that went away around 4 days after, and researched the horror stories and never took another pill) About 2 months later (completely healthy in between) I developed this intense light sensitivity and head pressure not ache. It was so bad I went to the ER twice and all blood work showed up completely normal. Docs had no idea what was going on.

My timeline is :
Early FEB : Lower back pain towards buttocks. Thought it was a UTI,etc from intercourse (never had a UTI in my life)
The doc checked it out and saw I had traces of puss in my urine and suggested it was prostatitis Hence the one pill of Levaquin.

Early MARCH : Back pain subsided by now was feeling great a little tired but good!
Had a cold that lasted an unusually short time (3 days)

MID MARCH : 2 weeks later, I now had light sensitivity a STIFF achy neck, pressure around the eyes, felt mentally absent, spoke kind of funny (i.e. couldnt get words out), depressed, very anxious, could fall asleep but woke up 5 hours or so after and couldnt go back, constipation, then numbness and tingling in arms, hands, legs, thighs, all while fatigued from NO EXERCISE, then as these symptoms CHANGED and migrated in a sense, I had arthritic pains in my hands, feet and especially my knees, now I’ve noticed more floaters in my eyes and purple light trails, from car brakes at night while driving as well as other strange vision changes (i.e. distances are now blurry to me)

After thinking I had MS, thinking it was one dose of Levaquin coming back to get me 2 months later, I now researched Lyme Disease on a whim and to my surprise I have over 70% of the symptoms associated from Lyme, and discovered with Lyme, the symptoms keep migrating to different locations in your body at different times….I thought I was crazy until I read the last part.

I may research too much, but I know my body and that I’ve been healthy my whole life, worked out EVERY day, danced, was happy, ambitious. I do not have insurance otherwise I would’ve been to doctors months ago. I will not let that stop me as I have family friends in the medicinal realm who could possibly help. I’ve researched about antibiotics for Lyme and natural homeopathic treatments.

By the way I did NOT have a rash (that I saw) I did however a few months ago feel a pimple like pain around a sensitive area between the buttocks but paid no attention to it and thought it was a pimple. Everything started a couple weeks if not days after if memory serves,

Im a 21 year old male in Los Angeles with no history of UTI, back pain, Lyme, or anything that I’ve experienced the last 3 months.
Any information you have would be great as well as input!

admin answers:

There is indeed Lyme disease in California, so don’t let anyone tell you different. (However, many doctors are wrong about this, and often tell patients they couldn’t possibly get Lyme in this state. Many of those patients now face lifelong pain and disability. Your best chance of a good outcome with Lyme is by early treatment–so get on this right now.)

I strongly recommend you go to http://www.lymedisease.org, the website of the California Lyme Disease Association and read what’s there. Also, there’s an on-line discussion group called CaliforniaLyme, where you can talk to others in your area with similar issues, and get recommendations for knowledgeable doctors in your area.
