George asks…

how does our brains work?

how do they think? how are we able to hear ourselves thinking? how are we able to visualize and see them without our eyes?

+ how come our visions “blink”? literally blink? I some times find it hard to work on my designs. I’m not an artist, and I probably won’t be anytime soon cause I’ve been too lazy to practice. so I’d just visualize it. if you know any mind exercises for perfecting my visions please let me know.

Paul asks…

At what point does love conquer?

My gf and I have been together for almost 2 years now. We are both college educated but not equally driven. From my point of view this is shameful, but from her she has no shame in admitting that she has no goals, cares not to change lifestyle, and, at any cost avoids competition and stress. In my eyes, she is simply lazy with not much of a future in sight. I love her, but her lack of passion for life and her objectives are increasingly making me not like her. The love is still there though. It really arises the question of if love is conditional. To give more details I’ll put it more simply:she doesn’t clean a damn thing; she watches TV after work all night until bed; does not exercise or care about weight gain; could care less about world events-not a shred of compassion for starving kids across the globe or wheter or not Bush stays in office. Passes up opportunities for advancement at work because she wants to keep job simple. What to do?

admin answers:

Man, u got one of Cinderella’s sisters, but even they cared about the way they looked! No offence, but a person with no goals in life doesn’t deserve it. I mean, this is the purpose in life: to do something, right? As time will pass this problem of yours will only get worst, and act like a settback for you! U wont be able to properly live your life without someone to compete with, to stimulate you into going further and achieving more… So my advice is to have a serious talk with your gf and if she still doesn’t understand then start lookng for someone who deserves u, cause by the looks of it, she doesn;t!

Chris asks…

The weight loss issue?

Been reading up on this diet supplement called phen357. I don’t know how many of these stupid pills I’ve taken in the last two years or so & yeah some might call me lazy talk about how I don’t want to exercise, & yes you’re right I’m lazy as fuckk when it comes to that & I love food. The reason why this product caught my eye is I use to take these pills a friend of mine had called phentermine. She was very overweight from having children and luckily found a doc to perscribe her those amazing pills. Took them for maybe a month and a half & had amazing results I have no idea how much I lost but I do know I went down two pants sizes. She ended up moving and of course took her prescription with her lol & everytime I see a doc I try to get around to asking about those pills and haven’t found one that would say yes. I’ve been told they’re very dangerous because the weight comes off so quickly but in the phen357 article they mentioned about phentermin hence the name phen357 so I figured I might have finally got the jackpot if anyone knows anything about this diet product i’d really like to know more.

admin answers:

Some young friends of mine are going to East Africa next month to help in the refugee camps. In those camps hundreds of children and adults are dying from starvation and from the results of malnutrition, why dont you join them?. If you do, I guarantee you will never overeat again and you will never need to take another pill. For your information, the only people that derive any benefit from diet pills and other weight loss concoctions, are the companies that make them and the people that sell them. You tell us that you have taken a lot of them in the past, and you are still a great fat lump, so what does that tell you?

Mark asks…

How hard is it to train a Standardbred?

I’m going to be getting my first horse in a couple months. I have ridden for nearly 7 years and people say I’m a naturally talented rider. I’ve also retrained an Arab mare (former costume class horse, all she knew how to do was gallop around being pretty) and helped exercise a one-eyed Arab mare after a big surgery that made her unrideable for a year.
At first, I wanted to buy a easygoing, lazy, push-button horse, but after reading about how many off-track racehorses are sent to slaughter every year, I decided I wanted an off-track racehorse. There are only harness racehorses in my area, so I would have to get a Standardbred.
My question is,
how hard is it to train a Standardbred to be ridden and would it make a good first horse for me?
I would really like to save a horse’s life.
Thanks! =)

admin answers:

It always depends on the horse, but generally it is very easy to retrain a STB to be ridden. Most of the ground work is complete and generally you won’t have problems trailering, clipping, bathing, etc.

My current STB is so laid back I hopped on him the first day we had him and rode him around the pasture. I was planning on taking it slow, but he kept falling asleep when I saddled him and didn’t even flinch when I put weight in the stirrup so just hopped up and went. In 10 years of riding him he has never bucked, reared, bolted, or raced off and most of that time he has been ridden by a beginner. Every STB I’ve retrained has been the same and I’ve been on them in less then a week. I know a lady that took her STB to an endurance ride (and won it) less then a week after they took her off the track. The STB I’ve gotten my hands on came from my parents or family friends so I know those horses were with excellent trainers and never abused. If your horse was abused then you may have more issues.

A plus is that most STB don’t associate being ridden with racing. My current STB is laid back, calm, and can be ridden by a complete beginner, but you hook him up to a cart and he can get hot and takes an experienced driver.

There are some gotcha’s. STB race hollow backed, head up high, and on a tight rein as they often lean into the reins. If you want your horse to canter and balance himself look at getting dressage lessons. It will take some time for him to build topline muscle that will allow him to collect so don’t expect to much too soon.

Don’t fall into the trap of trying to get your horse to canter by pushing him as fast as possible so he “breaks” gait. When you do this your horse will put his head up high and hollow his back which is exactly what you don’t want. Dressage lessons will really help you get over this and will prep your STB for whatever else you end up wanting to do with him.

If you haven’t checked out New Vocations I recommend you do.

They generally are really helpful in placing horses and if you are in an area they don’t have any horses right now they may still be able to hook you up with a horse.

Personally I think STB make great first horses and that is why I chose an OTSTB to be the first horse for my husband. My husband who maybe had 3 rides under his belt before we got him and the STB has been very patient and forgiving. I can’t imagine a better first horse.

One other thing because the STB have a lot of miles on them and tend to race a lot more then other breeds get a vet check (I’ve seen vet checked sound STB on New Vocations that had over 200 races under their belts). You don’t want to find an amazing horse and get attached to find out he isn’t sound for what you want.

Good luck and I hope you find the right horse.

Sandy asks…

im seeing things out of the corner of my eyes and hearing things?

i dont think this is a mental illness i think that my mind is playing tricks on me because my life isnt going very good right now i’m out of shape, i dont leave the house almost ever the only time i leave is when i go to me GED prep classes and my sleeping schedule is really messed up so i’ve realized i need to get out of the house more im so paranoid of everything i see in the corner of my eyes for example if i see movement in anyway in the corner of my eye i freak out and look to see if im seeing things but it will just end up being my shadow and i started hearing things also like police sirens, music like my brothers ringtone for his phone is a song by bruno mars and sometimes i swear ill hear it ringing and i’ll start looking for it but its no where to be found i live in colorado and its snowing really bad right now im looking for a job but getting no luck yet dont really have any friends anymore do any of you have any suggestions what i can do to get out of this house? and is this normal that im hearing and seeing things? i read a recent post where i guy was seeing/hearing things and someone answered saying to exercise, sleep right, eat right, and get out of the house im scared im going to go schizophrenic i really want to get a breath of fresh air and leave this house but i cannot dedicate myself to it ive always been the lazy one in my family who never really wants to do anything do you guys have any ideas to get me to dedicate myself to doing something? i know in the end im the only one who can help myself but i really need a push forward and my mom isnt that push for me because she lets me do whatever i want which i wish she was different because if i wouldve got forced to do stuff in my life i wouldn’t be at this point right now where the only thing i wanna do is stay home and stare at a comp screen. anyway give me your thoughts please

admin answers:

This sounds a little worrying. I think that previous advice, of getting out of the house, eating a bit better and exercising will REALLY help. And maybe seeing a doctor.

Exercise will help you with sleeping because you will actually be tired, and it just makes you feel more relaxed and better in general. I really suggest trying that. It’s a bit hard because it is snowing….and I’m not too familiar with the weather in Colorado, but try and get outside for a walk at least every second day. You can make it to go and do something you like if you aren’t motivated. For example, you could walk to a store and buy something you like, like a magazine. If there isn’t anything like that in walking distance, you could drive, but park furthur away to get some walking in.

If that isn’t possible, you could always start smaller…you live anywhere close to the movies? An internet cafe? Even hanging out at those kinds of places a couple of times a week might help you to get out of the house. Maybe even meet some people.

You kinda sound like you need something to do with your days…what about volunteering somewhere? They always need people, and you can meet people! Its good to have something scheduled because it is a reason to go out, and a reason to wake up in the morning.

Also getting sleeping back on track will help. Don’t have any caffiene, and not too much sugar in the few hours before bed. Don’t play on your computer for at least an hour before you plan to go to sleep…things like computer games and tv and movies activate the brain, they wake you up. Try reading instead, or listening to calm music – it naturally winds your brain down (edit: reading on a book, not a screen).

If you aren’t motivated then it’s hard and nothing I can say will help much, but think of it this way: you sound like you already know that the way you are living now is not good for you. I mean..you’re hearing things…kinda worrying. You should probably speakl to a doctor as well as trying the above :)

Susan asks…

Help! my guinea pig is sick!?

I have two guinea pigs, Boo and Twix. Boo was fine for a while, until she showed signs of a lice. I took her to the vet and she was treated for lice and it is gone now. Next, Boo showed signs of a fungal skin disease, and she is in the process of getting medicine shampoo for it. Now, Boo has red eyes, and there looks to be like she has “fatty eye,” but wouldn’t fatty eye be harmless? She looks like her eyes really bother her, and there is crust on her eyes ALL the time! I am scared because she isn’t wheeking when she gets her food anymore, and she seems lazy around her cage (which is pretty big). Boo will be going to the vet asap. But I just want to have some idea what is going on with her. And I have a few ideas: URI, or a regular eye infection.

Also, I would like to know if I am doing anything wrong while I take care of Boo/Twix because it seems like Boo always gets sick.
-She has a big C&C 2by4
-I spot clean her cage every single day
-She has a friend that she loves(Twix)
-She always has hay and pellets
- I feed her fresh fruits and veggies every day (only veggies that are ok for g-pigs)
-She has floor time at least 3 times a week
-Her water bottle is always full and it doesn’t have any vitamin c “juice” in it
-I don’t put her in any harmful situations (ex. exercise balls)
-I usually bath her every 6-8 weeks with guinea pig shampoo (except she has that infection so it is painful to bath her until her medicine comes)
-Her nails are always trimmed

I don’t know what else I can do! She always has something wrong with her!
Please help.

admin answers:

It sounds as though your are doing every thing correctly, just in case you are not I will give you guide lines to follow so you can see if there is any thing wrong at all OK. Feed your guinea pigs as follows, this is for one guinea pig

Unlimited guinea pig pellets that are 18% protein and have Vitamin C with no nuts, seeds or other colored stuff in them

Unlimited hay, timothy, orchard grass or any goo grass hay you can find at your local Feed and Seed store, that is where your local farmers shop and every thing is much fresher and at least 1 1/10th of what you would pay for them at a pet store.

1/2 to 1 cup of dark green leafy veggies daily such as kale (the best) romaine lettuce, swiss chard, dandelion greens, mustard greens, parsley, red and green bell peppers, a mix of these daily with the pellets provide all the Vitamin c they need.

Fruit should be fed every 3 days only as a treat as it is to high in sugar to be healthy for your guinea pigs also it is high in acid so if fed daily it will cause sores in the guinea pigs mouth.

Change the water daily to assure it is drinking ample water.

Actually you should not be bathing them, that can cause problems for their skin and if the shampoo were to get into the eye it could cause issues there. It can also cause an URI. Guinea pigs make a white milky fluid in their eyes that they work through their fur with their front paws, it is their natural conditioner. When you bathe them you wash this out and risk harming their tender skin. Only bathe them when them have been ill and messed up their fur. If their cages are properly cleaned there is not need to bathe them. One of the biggest errors many people make is not putting enough bedding in the cages so it is not absorbent enough. They get worried about the cost, however, if the purchase pine shavings at the Feed and Seed store they can get a 12 cubic foot bag for only $10.00, I have to cages that are huge and one bag lasts me 2 1/2 months as I only have to throw out 1/2 of the bedding that is wet, the other half is just fine and I put in on the bottom of the cage with 3″ of new bedding on top of it. Bathing can also just be stressful for some guinea pigs and the stress alone will cause them to get an URI.

Your little tyke does sound like she may have an URI, the crusty eye, not eating, not moving about are all signs of URI but the red eye does not necessarily go with it so she may have a couple of things going on.

Some times we just for no reason get a guinea pig that has a weak immune system. I have that with my little Suzzi, she was a rescue, she and her sister had mites so bad at 5 weeks old they had lost all their fur except a bit on their heads, they were locked in a cold unlit bathroom in a 12″ X 12″ box and they had been treated with Ivermectiom for horses and she was given to much and it has really affected her little life. The poor little thing is so dumb, she has no reasoning ability, poor little thing, but she is sweet. I was able to re-home her sister but I lovingly had to keep her due to her medical problems and she is always at the vets.I do know how you feel, I know I take perfect care of her but there are times I just think I should be able to stop her form getting sick, I know she suffers when she is sick and I don’t like to see her suffer. She gets consent sinus infections.

Good luck, hope every thing works out well

Donna asks…

How does one lose eyesight, and how does one gain it back?

I’ve worn glasses most of my life (I’m about to turn 18 in a few months), and for some reason when I was in the second grade I began to lose my vision drastically. I wore glasses ever since, but I would always eat right, watch the tv from a good distance to protect my eyes, etc. Neither of my parents have glasses and actually have perfect vision. Heres the strangest part, I’ve notice that the more time I spend with my eyes closed the sharper and clearer I see when I open them (which makes me think I should bandage my eyes for two weeks during the summer to see what happens). I’m getting to a point in my life where I truly want to see clear again like when I was a kid. Its discouraging knowing that you rely on glasses or contacts to see. I want to be able to rely on my own eyes, something thats a part of my body. So if anyone knows of any methods (other than laser eye surgey) and/or exercises, or know anyone that has gained back their vision naturally please, please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read this and answer my question.

admin answers:

Gee, I wonder why people spend thousands of $ for laser surgery if there was an easy natural way to regain vision.

If there was a natural way that worked, it would be BIG news and everyone would know about it, and be doing it.

So, obviously, you are in the same boat as millions of others. Laser surgery is your only option in a few years.

admin answers:

I’ve only heard of one case like this and it involved a radioactive spider bite.

Outside of that you need to find out why your eye sight is deteriorating. The shape of your eye will distort it, so as you grow it could be getting changed in a not so good way. If it’s the retina deteriorating then that’s a whole different ball of wax.

Rub the crust out of both eyes when you wake up in the morning and put it into a small glass bottle with some rosemary and seawater. Make your husband wear it around his neck for three nights, you’ll know it’s time to take it back when the water turns black. Open the bottle and put a few drops of black water into each eye, just like regular eyedrops.

Mary asks…

Is it a Panic attack or low blood sugar problem?

I went to my doctor last month, did a blood test and my non fasting blood sugar was 130 , around 2 hours after lunch. I thought it was too high, so i cut all calories fats and absolutely no sugar at all!!!!. I started drinking diet sodas, no sweats, no candies . Anyways 3 days ago, i was on my computer , and suddenly i started to feel that my brain is getting weaker and i cant breath at all, suddenly my eyes went blurry, i panicked so much that i opened my room window to let some air in. Then my hands and feet get cold and started to sweat, suddenly my heart started to have a drowning feeling . I was very light headed, blurred vision , severe shortness of breath, felt like oxygen is not going into my brain. I usually spend 8 to 9 hours on my laptop. Anyways, i took some honey and felt better. These episodes really annoyed me for the next 3 days, all the time i thought that i was going to die, loosing consiousness and going faint, feels like my brain was so weak, too much eye strain . Anyways, i started to take some sugar and now i feel much better now, much better, but my eye strain is not going away. I cant work on my laptop, and if i do after sometime, my eyes and head start to pain. i thought 130 blood sugar level was high , so i was also doing some heavy dumbbell exercises and some running on treadmill ? any ideas what it was ? what caused it? why is my eye strain and headache not going and why i am feeling so tired and weak? Plz any help.

admin answers:

Anyone’s blood sugar will decrease if they sit hours in front of a pc and not eat. A moderate amount of non-simple sugars is beneficial, but if I were you I’d talk to your doctor about your symptoms and maybe get tested for hypoglycemia. Then you’ll know for sure if you have it. No one here can diagnose based on symptoms since there can be so many causes. Lab test will give you your definitive answer.

Mark asks…

I have not exercised for awhile but exercised today and my vision turned black…what should I do?

I have not exercise since October. (Yeah I know that’s really bad) and today while I was conditioning for a school sport I think I became so overworked (than I was accustomed to) and every time I blinked I saw funny colors when I opened my eyes again. One minute after that began my eyesight went completely black for a good 5-6 seconds. I tried blinking and it would not go away. After my eyesight came back I got super dizzy. I was told that this happened because of my lack of oxygen.

I am going to be at this exercising thing for a while, and will continue to do so even after my school sport season is over. But I do not want to feel like that EVER again.

How do I stop it from happening again?
Note: I did not lose consciousness. I was awake but “blacked out” and could not see anything

admin answers:

There are many reasons for losing consciousness. A lot of times it has to do with distribution of blood. If you have too much blood in your head or not enough, you may pass out. This is commonly seen in exercising that involve getting on the ground.

Or as you said, also commonly seen in runners, you’re not getting enough oxygen causing your blood to move to your brain in an attempt to prepare for your body to save yourself.

Sandra asks…

What could these symptoms mean?

Okay so, ever since early December I have been having these weird symptoms and some have completely disappeared, some have gotten more stronger and obvious – and new symptoms have come into charge as well.

So now, for the symptoms!
• Odd scents (not as strong – nor does it happen too often anymore).
• Pulsating in my head, mostly in the back of my head.
• Nose bleeding (like, thrice so far?).
• Headaches – pretty much everywhere around my head; lately it has been the back of my head, but it changes place.
• Tingly feelings in my head.
• Sometimes I may feel a bit dizzy, but it lasts only a couple seconds.
• Black dots (blackening areas) in the side of my eye vision – in the left eye (kinda hard to explain).
• Shivers/chills at sometimes (odd example, but it’s the same one would have during an orgasm).

That’s it for the symptoms (or the ones that I can remember at the moment), and speaking of orgasms I was wondering if this could have something to do with masturbating? Or maybe I don’t exercise enough? Before we go into that, let me give you a bit of background story…

Well obviously since I have had these symptoms for quite long time, I have been to the doctor a couple times (like 4 to 5), and I finally got an appointment to an MRI, which would be this Friday 27th – and also I’ll pay a visit to an ophthalmologist as well to see if there’s something wrong with my eyes. Well there is, I have a pretty bad vision and an optician stated that I need glasses (they are in the works atm). So that’s for that.

And by the way, I have had a diagnosed migraine since I was like 2-years-old, but if you ask me I’d say they have gotten a bit more rare (which is good)! And why am I telling all this? So that you experts can put this all together and come up with something.

And yes, I have a fairly high blood pressure too, I’m aware of that. Maybe it could be the reason to all this?

Right now I can’t come up with anything else but I’m sure this is enough information for you to put your heads together and analyze it. If it sounds like something serious, approach me carefully… I’m scared of serious things, and they worry me deeply.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Sorry for the text of wall, by the way, I wanted to provide as much as information as possible!

admin answers:

Just a possible:

Have you had your thyroid tested? You need testing for thyroid ANTIBODIES as well as TSH. TSH ‘norm’ should be .3 – 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2) but, for diagnosis, may not mean much if ANTIBODIES are present which is indicative of Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis (cycles between HYPER & HYPO at start)…it is the main cause of eventual HypOthyroidism but worse (…OR Graves Disease – HypERthyroid).

WARNING: Doctors seem not to want to find/treat thyroid disease. You may have to go to more than one doctor before you get the right tests, interpretation, and treatment. Best wishes.

Donald asks…

ap european history documents?

Can you explain to me what each of these documents is saying:

Source: From the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola, part of Counter Reformation

Fifteenth Rule. We ought not, by way of custom, to speak much of predestination; but if in some way and at some times one speaks, let him so speak that the common people may not come into any error, as sometimes happens, saying; Whether I have to by saved or condemned is already determined, and no other thing can now be, through my doing well or ill; and with this, growing lazy, they become negligent in the works which led to the salvation and spiritual profit of their souls.

2cd DOCUMENT:

Source: The Prince, Chapter XVIII (1505), by Nicolo Machiavelli
For this reason a prince ought to take care that he never lets anything slip from his lips that is not replete with the above-named five qualities, that he may appear to him who sees and hears him altogether merciful, faithful, humane, upright, and religious. There is nothing more necessary to appear to have than this last quality, inasmuch as men judge generally more by the eye than by the hand, because it belongs to everybody to see you, to few to come in touch with you. Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them; and in the actions of all men, and especially of princes, which it is not prudent to challenge, one judges by the result.

admin answers:

Loyola is criticizing the Protestant doctrine of Predestination – the idea that it is determined by God in advance, even before they are born, whether or not someone goes to Heaven when they are dead.
The doctrine of the Catholic Church is that God makes this decision based on the actions of the individual during their lifetime, and that doing good deeds can help an individual enter Heaven.Loyola is saying that the Catholic Church should actively preach that the Protestant doctrine of Predestination is wrong, and actively encourage people to seek salvation (entry to Heaven after death) by doing good deeds in their lifetime.

The Prince:
Machiavelli is saying that it’s very important that a ruler should tell people what they want to hear, especially that said ruler is a very religious man. Even if this is not true,Machiavelli is claiming that people are more likely to believe what they hear from the lips of a ruler rather than judge them by their actions.

Go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
Take a hot bath and drink warm milk before bed.
Do NOT read or watch TV in bed.
Keep the room a bit chilly, but use enough blankets to stay warm.

The best way to deal with that is just to talk. :) I know it’d be weird to talk to a stranger. But won’t that be better than talking to someone who actually knows you? Try to put your thoughts into words. So if you feel like a good rant or ramble about silly and random things, feel free to message me. :)
