Your Questions About Eye Exercises For Lazy Eye

January 4, 2012

Joseph asks…

What Does Eye Exercise Do?

My doctor and my mom forces me to do eye exercises. I have two eye doctor. One doctor is for my contact and the other is just for my regular eye doctor that I need to see for one time a year. They all prefer the same suggestions that I should do eye exercise. Meaning that, I focus on one object directly closely and look at another object farther for a few seconds. What do they do. I didn’t want surgery either and they say eye exercise solves the problem. I have tried them on for a few days but I have nothing affected by my right lazy eye. It just keeps on looking at the left when I look straight at people.

admin answers:

Eye exercises take up to a year to fully work! You will probably be able to see small changes in two months though, as long as you keep doing the exercises. Whatever exercises you do may seem pointless, but since your eye has been ignored by your brain for most of your life, you are basically teaching it to see all over again. I went through a similar program for my lazy eye, and I have developed control of the muscles in my eye, so it doesn’t turn out any more. It took about a year, but it was worth it. Trust me, just follow the doctor’s instructions; just be patient and you will see results!

Richard asks…

Exercising my lazy left eye!?

ive noticed that the vision in my left eye was not perfect,so i tried a few exercises for it,for the last few days ive covered my right eye for about a half an hour, and now after today my right eye that was perfect 20/20 vision seems to have gone bad, this is kind of scary.ive only just finished doing the exercise on my left eye
so should i give it a few hours for my right eye to adjust after it has been closed for half an hour

admin answers:

I wear glasses because I’m near-sighted & notice sometimes my eyes need time to adjust if I’ve been doing lots of close work.

So – it’s possible your right eye just needs time to readjust after being covered w/ a patch.

If you haven’t already – consult an optometrist who specializes in eye therapy.

This is the best book I’ve found for eye exercises:

The Program for Better Vision: How to See Better in Minutes a Day Without Glasses or Contacts! (Paperback) by Martin Sussman

Mark asks…

Eye Question?

My eyes are continuing to get worse. I am nearsighted and my left eye is worse than my right eye. I think it is called lazy eye?

What can I do to make my vision get close to 20/20? I discovered eye exercises today and wondered if they really worked. I heard of programs that are used to help improve vision GREATLY.

I probably can not buy those programs, but was wondering if anyone can give any eye exercises to help improve my vision. (Left eye is around 4+ while my right eye is around 2-3?)

Can anyone tell me more about eye exercises? Do i have to wear glasses or not when doing these exercises. I am only 14, and wish for better eyesight more than ANYTHING in the world.

Serious Answers please! Thank You

admin answers:

First of all, if you’re wanting to do exercises to prevent your prescription from increasing, there’s nothing out there that’s proven to work. (ie. The See Clearly Method which has been recently pulled off the market.) There are ways to slow the progression of nearsightedness or allow you the freedom to not have to wear glasses or contacts during the day. Check out

Second, if you truly have a lazy eye (where one eye is not seeing 20/20 WITH glasses) then you need to have an evaluation done by an optometrist to see if vision therapy would help. Vision therapy consists of a customized series of exercises for your specific problem.

Your Questions About Ways To Naturally Improve Eyesight

January 3, 2012

Ruth asks…

Improving eyesight naturally? Real or Fake?

We are at an age where nearsightedness is found in the majority of people. And the only ways people know of dealing with this is to either get glasses, contacts, or Lasik. Anyways I have been dating a guy for a couple of weeks now and we have been getting to know each other and I noticed that he has better eyesight than me and I wear glasses. I asked him how he had good eyesight to read small print from far away and he said he was once nearsighted and ten years ago he started doing eye exercises and watching what he eats and his vision improved overtime. He says that the only problem is that it takes time and a lot of patience andyou need to do the exercises frequently and you will not notice the change right away. So why isn”t eye exercises recommended by doctors? Are they afraid of losing business by not selling glasses or is this fake? If it is fake then how come it worked for my boyfriend? I don’t know who to believe since there are some internet forums I checked out where people claim eye exercises work and there’s others who say it doesn’t. What do you think is the truth?

admin answers:

Some people’s vision does just improve on it’s own. Both of my sons did. They didn’t do anything though … It just happened.

Carol asks…

eyesight?plz help?

i just found out that i need to wear glasses. my vision is -0.75 and -1. is that bad? and is there a way i can improve my eyesight naturally? should i wear glasses all the time or only when i need to?also i have headaches. what should i do?

admin answers:

-1.00 is pretty mild on the myopia scale. Most people this low should still be able to pass their drivers test.

Eyesight can improve and return to natural. We interfere with our natural perfect vision by trying to see a certain way. Squinting, Straining, Staring, and Diffusing, squeezes our eyes out of shape and gives us blurry vision. We can return our vision to normal by stopping the incorrect vision habits and relerning the correct vision behaviors. Look for Natural Eyesight Improvement and The Bates Method. Avoid anything that talks about eye exercises(eye pushups, eye aerobics, eye yoga) Many people believe that the Bates Method is about eye exercises but they are incorrect. Eye exercises do not address the real issues of blurry vision and neither do artificial corrections for that matter.

People should only wear their eye glasses prescribed for their blurry vision and only when they need to see clearly. No one should ever Squint, Strain, Diffuse, or Stare.

Joseph asks…

I am gonna go blind!! Please help me!!!?

I am near sighted and already have a point of 5.5. Please help me! Are there any ways to improve my eyesight naturally? I am too young to get a laser operation. By the way, does anyone know what point contacts will work to; is there a point where contacts will not work? I need help please!

admin answers:

Baby girl, you ain’t gonna go blind, who told you that lie?! First of all, stressing out like that isn’t good for ANY part of your body. For serious! Just relax a little bit, I know you’re going to be okay.
Second of all, you should know that 5.5 isn’t the end of the world. If you’re too young for a laser operation then you must be in your teens. When I was your age, I had a similar prescription, maybe mines was like 5.0 back then. But still. I’m -6.5 now and in my 20′s. It WILL get worse but not that much worse though. You definitely wont go blind from your bad prescription. I would say contacts probably do go to about -10 or -12 or maybe even to -14, but I’m not totally sure.
And the best advice any of us can give you is to DEFINITELY go talk to your doctor. Hearing advice from a trusted professional will obviously make you feel safer, right? And eye doctor trips are fairly cheap and easy to do so you shouldn’t have a problem talking to a real doctor instead of us.
However, I do know some things you can do to improve your eyesight, or at least stop it from getting worse, but you have to be dedicated (and that can be hard as a teenager to stick with things like these but it’s up to you).
You could take the pills. There are pills designed to keep your eyes from getting worse. I was taking this one for a while, it’s called Bausch and Lomb Ocuvite PreserVision. You have to take like four pills a day, and they’re HUGE pills. But the pills have things like Vitamin A (beta carotene), Vitamin C (absorbic acid), Vitamin E, Zinc, and Copper. Actually, those are the only ingredients. So maybe if you just ate foods that had high levels of those vitamins, like carrots.
Also, taking your contacts out at night EVERY NIGHT and using Clear Care Lens Solution is a good idea. You have to make sure you don’t do any damage to your eyes that will prevent you from getting Lasik in the future.
Also, there’s the See Clearly method. They are eye exercises. I know a girl that did them and she had really good results but her prescription was very low to begin with so I don’t know how well that will work for people with higher prescriptions.
The main thing I can tell you is to please don’t stress (that makes it worse!) and to see your doctor! I gauruntee you’ll be okay.

Your Questions About Eye Exercises

January 2, 2012

Jenny asks…

Do eye exercises really work?

I am nearsighted. My vision has really gotten bad, but i always belived in eye exercises. When i asked an eye doctor recently, he said not. Is there a limit to how bad your vision can be? Serious answers only please.

admin answers:

Eye exercises – or vision therapy – can be useful for several different types of vision problems. Unfortunately, nearsightedness (myopia) is not one of them. Trust me, if there were exercies that worked, me and my classmates would be doing them!
I would not be too concerned with your eyes getting extremely bad. But if you are, talk to your optometrist about it. Vision usually stabilizes in the twenties until you start to hit presbyopia around the age of forty. And – as a bonus – being nearsighted lets you hit presbyopia (losing the ability to see at near) later in life :)

Ruth asks…

Do eye exercises work to improve vision ?

My eye sight is very poor and need to wear toric contact lenses to correct moderate astigmatism and short sightedness. I stumbled accross web sites claiming to be able to improve eye sight with regular eye exercises. Has anyone with the same sort of condition eyes tried this and does it really work to the extent they claim.

admin answers:

Whenever people tell you that eyesight cannot improve permanently, do not believe them. They need to try something first before they say it doesn’t work, otherwise they’re not being truly scientific. Real science means to try something first before determining whether you are sure of something. If you are taught that x implies y in school, and others tell you that x is y because science tells them so, that is NOT being scientific. How do they know for sure x is y unless they try it first? People (including doctors) are merely repeating to you what they’ve been taught to believe, rather than what they’ve tried. This is not true science.

Here is my recommendation, something that I have tried and know really works: the Bates method. It teaches you the correct vision habits used by people with perfect sight. It’s meant to be used 24/7/365. It works much better than eye strengthening exercises that require something like 25 minutes a day and then you go back to your old bad eye habits. It can help you with your astigmatism. More info:

Many people who do eye strengthening exercises find that they have limited success, and later on say they should’ve gone with the Bates method instead. The Bates method is based on the findings of a doctor who also discovered adrenaline… This man was so smart that he was as high in the optometry world as one could be during his time. He discovered a way to reverse eyesight, but politics and economic forces compelled the board of optometrists at his school to expel him from his teaching position (he taught optometrists) and have him publicly ostracized.

Wait just a minute, why did the method work for me? Why would they work if he was “wrong”? Everything has worked for me exactly as Bates said they would; and I mean every single thing I’ve tried. He is not lying; the fraudulent ODs expelled him for economical reasons – there’s even a 1978 UC-San Diego study that reveals the method eliminated astigmatism and strabismus (cross-eyes) in a few people. It’s known as the McClay dissertion. For a brief synoposis of it, look at

Here is the Bates method in a nutshell:

Dr. Bates tested thousands of schoolchildren and found that he was able to improve their eyesight back to 20/20 or better.

He understood eyesight better than any eye doctor that has ever existed, believe it or not. He knew how to help people not strain when looking in the distance or up close, and understood the role the mind plays in vision.

I was able to go from 20/100 to 20/13 (verified on Snellen eye chart) in 2 months. You can find out more about the method at … For a book with a lot of good information on how to improve your eyesight using the Bates method, you can purchase this one:

Best of luck.

Richard asks…

does anyone know of any eye exercises that can correct double vision?

Igot it from a fast I went on I started pukkin up green bile and then had double vision.I really regret it can anyone help me out and teach me some eye exercises that can correct it.

admin answers:

You need to see an optometrist to determine what is causing it, then a proper treatment can be found.

There aren’t any specific exercises that will do any good in all cases.
